Difference between a DLC and an Expansion.

    Let's get funky here..

A DLC = Downloadable Content = Content for your game that you can download after paying for it.
but Morrowind will be an expansion so:
Expansion = Expansion = Content for your game that you can download after paying for it.
But it's not a DLC! It's an Expansion. but after paying for it you can download it. But it's not a DLC! we call it an expansion. makes it worth more.
Because it's worth more it's called an expansion even thou you have to download it after paying for it like the dlc but it's not the same.
So you can't pay with crowns for it even thou you saved crowns for future downloadable content = DLC
Since the expansion is content which can be downloaded after paying for it, you would believe that one can pay for it using crowns. but you can't because it's not a dlc.
    ....
man i could go like this for dayz, Zenimax hire me today! because my logic is an expansion not dlc.

DLC does equal downloadable content. However, most DLCs from my experience were always 1/4 or less the size of the original game. An expansion is usually 1/3 or large the size of the original game. Therefore if Morrowind is a true expansion the content should equal game time of one of the original alliance areas.

Also the new content includes a new class, similar to the extra cost for the Imperial race.

So you can state it any way you want. All they have to state is this, you are paying for the class, which comes with the content.

That is the industry definition of it pretty much.

Than all the old dlc is expansions now because their on disc. Your logic is terrible

The expansions on the disc are loop holes, it's still dlc because you don't need a disc to get it. Expansions are old school because it is to be harder to get new content via the internet to the consumer. Dlc and expansions are the same because once internet became easier for the developers to push items out online they were Coined dlc.

Technically, nothing. In this case? Quite a bit. A dlc (in terms of what you buy- really the dlc is just the major updates) in ESO appears to be a area of pre existing content that is locked off by a paywall. This includes Gold coast, Hews Bane, Orsinium, Imperial city, the argonian dungeons and that new island and cave introduced in homestead. While the zone and quests are locked off until it's either bought with crowns or an eso sub is payed for, some of it isn't- such as motifs and ingredients. These new zones bring something new to the game, which is usually restricted to just these zones. For instance new story focused quests, new pvp and currency, new stealth system (only used in those zones) and new skill lines included with new guilds. Various cosmetics, such as costumes, might also be unique to the zone.

An expansion however seems to be an extension to the game world, which offers the ESO experience in a much smaller scale. Meaning the chapter will include updated or new content, that is accessible through out all the base game as well. This includes in morrowind (not all are confirmed, and are not in bold to distinguish them)
      PVP (the battle zones)
      Story content (main story)
      tutorial
all familiar aspects- delves, group dungeons etc
Crafting- new motifs and possibly new consumables,
      Homestead
One class (that can be used in addition to the 4 others)
Minimum of three skill lines (potential for more passive skill lines)
Possible (although not confirmed) new guilds (max 4, being used possibly as vvardenfell versions of the 4 main ES guilds- not meaning dunmer thieves guild but with one of the houses, likely Hlaalu, having a stealth focused passive skill line)
      Large new zone
      New books and materials

Generally the DLC only focus on adding to whats in the game, their expansion has a focus on providing variation to the game.

Actually... They called it a Chapter. :)

What irritates me is the bare-faced cheek to pretend that it is due to it being something different.
ZOS needs to grow a pair and be up front. "We are preventing you from using Crowns because we can!"
I'll likely buy it because it will be exciting. As usual, they manage to take the shine off it with their underhand approach.

      oh you shiny star you

Has any DLC released a new class, battlegrounds, and a zone the size of an entire game (TES:III)? No? I find that to be a bit more valuable than SotH.

We don't know how big Vvardenfell is going to be in ESO. We don't know the playable area. Is the Red Mountain accessible? Is it one large zone or several linked zones? The main problem is that Morrowind might very well deserve to be called an expansion, but ZOS still hasn't shown us enough to tell - so people don't know what they're expected to pay $40 for.

It's substantially larger than a DLC. It's covering all Vardenfell which should be much larger than all skyrim

Good thing they added a large, inaccessible mountain in the middle.

Please stop with the "larger" argument based on geographical area. Horrible argument.

The fact is we won't know how much bigger it is than Orsinium in any meaningful way until people start playing. And that still won't change the fact that ZOS performed a bait-and-switch.

Personally, I understand that sometimes businesses have to pivot to survive. But that always results in a lot of angry, jilted customers.

Guys. Everything that is 'dlc' is an expansion because it is literally 'expanding' the game world.

I don't have a problem being charged for it. I understand why they're doing it; because they can.

What irritates me is the bare-faced cheek to pretend that it is due to it being something different.

      Agreed.

It looks like they realized they need the extra revenue from the expansions to keep things going at a high. DLC is so cheap now that we can store up on crowns during sales.

The only difference between DLC and Expansion is in name only lol they will start calling very little update an expansion now so eso+ won't cover it so they can charge for both eso+ and dlc so unless you like that crafting bag I would unsub
Xbox One - NA GT: RebornV3x
I also play on PC from time to time but I just wanna be left alone on there so sorry.

They can change TOS whenever they want sure. But they can't change English language.
And this is exactly what they are attempting to do, expecting us players to accept their new language which means several things. u never know what it means and when it means who or what.

This is a joke, they said you can buy current and further DLC with crowns or with eso plus subscription, then they add a new content and call it chapter or whatever. And guess what? they blocked crown owners to buy this new DLC.
