Winterborn Set

Can anyone provide details on how this drops please? Is it certain pieces on certain rounds? If so what rounds drop what? Also does it drop one handed swords? What are the traits dropped? And can certain things only be found in vet or does it all drop in normal as well? Thanks

There are no weapons for any of these sets in ma or vma. They drop all traits bar training and prosperous.

Only exception is shields. The maelstrom shield is part of permafrost or glory.

I don't think that certain armor pieces drops in certain rounds. Jewelry drops on last 2 or 3 rounds. Purple on vet. Can't remember if weapons drop, I usually just decon everything from vma. I seem to remember getting a shield, but not sure.

Rings don't drop atm at all. Necks are rounds 7-9.

Large armor parts drop from round 4 iirc and loot table gets more bloated as it goes on.

Rings drop, they come from 7 8 or 9. I have a lot of the Rings and necklaces. Winter born is such a good set I love using it

Reason for asking, wanted to run this in pvp possibly with new warden. But I dont want to wear light armor so im guessing its not possible... would ysgramors birthrite be my next best option?

Winter born in pvp is fun as hell with an ice staff!!! That with the ice destroy ultimate or wall of elements or crushing shock / force pulse is much fun. Give it a try

Also I tried ysg, not worth it imo. Thought maybe it could replace my winter born (even tried both) but the dps lacked bad. But Julianos + winter born is pretty fun

Yeah ive seen it used. Its deff aids to fight against lol. But my issue is having to wear the light armor. Ill be so much easier to kill then the other 85% running around in full heavy impen. Was hoping for jewelry and swords. As i dont like staves too much. I resto dual wield.

They do actually. I am not quite sure where the drops changed but it was something like: Small pieces (belt, gloves, boots, shoulder) drops from rounds 1-4 Big pieces (Chest, Legs, Helm) Drops from 4-8 and jewelleries drop from 7-9.

But if you don't like using staves, trust me, you will not enjoy this set that much. The reason is, besides ice meteor, you only have frost staff abilities to proc winterborn.

We will see what the Warden will offer.

I think that's still the case, yeah. I know I got my Winterborn legs in round 5. Jewelry drops on the last levels, yes.

OP, you can farm normal Maelstrom Arena for the non-Jewelry pieces if you wish. They drop on CR160, blue quality. It's quicker and you don't have to pay a lot of attention to what you are doing.

As far as I know there is a bug preventing you from obtaining any ring in MA. I don't know if this has been fixed yet but I haven't got any ring for about 4 months and I've done 100+ runs in vMA since then.

OP sorry no. Weapons for these sets do NOT exist. Bar 2 shields only. Swords are maelstrom swords and NOT set items like winterborn and para bellum etc. Anyone else says otherwise I will donate £10k to charity to be proven otherwise. Wiki is full of shite.

You're right

The only weapons you can get in MA are maelstrom ones from vet mode. Other sets like winterborn or hunt don't drop weapons at all, only armor and jewelry (except for buggy rings as I've mentioned above).

Shoot. Sleet Storm (warden move) alone might be worth it. Sure it might proc winter born 20 times in a zerg! Lol. But yes I plan to only proc it with warden class abilities.

Was expecting to gold my winterborn set with ice staff for my mag Sorc just for fun, then ice staves became tank weapon and it just doesn't make sense with winterborn AFAIK (PVE perspective).

We'll have to wait for warden skills and see if it's gonna be useful then. Though I fear the frost skill line is gonna be tank/CC/shield based for wardens.

I think we will see enough offensive frost abilities, too. And that Frost Ult I think will either have a cast time (+ less received damage while casting) which results in a ice storm like in the trailer (also immobilizing unlucky people) or maybe it's a channeled one, like Rite of Passage, which instead deals a strong frost DoT to everyone while in its radius?

I'm thinking that frostcasters can avoid all the tank business by just not taking the destro staff passive that enables taunts. I don't think there's anything innately changing about frost staves that makes them have to be for tanks, as long as you don't take that passive.

I was thinking of saving the Ysgramor pieces I picked up while questing in the Rift, but maybe I'll have to suck it up and see if I can handle nMA if Winterborn is that good.

Sleet Storm, one of the new Warden abilities. This ability creates a hailstorm around the caster to deal damage and reduces the impact of incoming attacks for the Warden and his allies.

There is. You'd want to do this on a character that was going to be a dedicated frostcaster and not use the other types of staves. (Or just decide to do without that passive's effects for those staves.)

Source? The game comes out in 4 months. That's a long ways off. Why would they give everything away? It's a major content expansion, it would be idiotic not to add new sets, it's almost illogical not considering them doing so, TES3 had plenty of frost stuff, just because it isn't Windhelm doesn't mean there won't be frost sets & variety. Plus, plenty of sets are geared for different class builds, why will the Warden be any different?

I won't be rolling Warden anyway. I am interested in changing my stamsorc back to magsorc and was thinking of going ice mage route. Winterborn seems to be the only viable set. Glad I didn't farm ice furnace very long, I completely overlooked that it's heavy Lol

Welp. Im stuck in heavy until this pvp heavy meta goes away. Or more important, one shot gank builds do lol. Cant keep up in light armor with the other guys. Unless of course warden comes with op asss defense skills. Id love to see some frost sets but i wont hold my breath

I got sharpened ice staff and training resto from this set, resto staff from today. Last chest, when you finish MA, dropped them.
