I couldn't help to notice they look really different from the options we have ingame. they look much more humans, specially their eyes. why are we stuck with these weird faces for most elves and then the same company makes a video with them looking much better? if we all agree they look better that way, why even have these cat like features on elves? if I want a cat I'd play a Khajit anyway...
I'm curious on why the change on cosmetics features on them...

XD never noticed it, since he doesn't really appear in cinematics much lately (I started playing after they changed the intro cinematic) but what's the point in designing the races a certain way only to change it in every cinematic? if the devs dont like the looks of the race, why making it that way in the first place? I much prefer how the dunmer looked in the video than in game.

I think in all the cinematics the for ESO people have had a more "human" shape to their faces, where's in game they've retained the TES style sharpness for elves.

i wonder why the difference... maybe the cinematics use preset humans just edited for the purpose, opposed to a new model with specific face features?

The trailer looked like it featured weirdly colored humans with pointy ears.

I'd have much preferred a more elven look.

I don't like their appearance in the trailer. They look too human. They are supposed to be elves, yet they lack their alien qualities. Even the in-game Mer are too human. I believe that Skyrim did a much better job capturing the appearance of the elves.
    With cold regards,

I thought the trailer depicted them accurately?

Maybe youre messing around with the customisation. If you tried hard enough im sure you can make an imperial look like an argonian with the customization.

In my case, I found their appearance in the trailer did not look like traditional dark elves. Naryu looked like a human with grey skin and her target looked sort of like Cheech Marin with red eyes.

What I love about the Dunmer, Altmer and Bosmer in the Elder Scrolls lore is that they don't look like lord of the rings elves. They are somewhat alien in appearance, with very specific cultures, quite different from generic high fantasy settings. I love their brow ridges especially, which were lacking in that cinematic trailer and missing on many of the NPCs of ESO.

The breathtaking character design work by Dennis Mejilliones on Skyrim is how I will always picture the dark elves

opinions I guess, I've always found the alien features to be ugly.
even in the first cinematic with the female elf, she looks much more human than ingame.
but opinions aside, they should be consistent between ingame and cinematics.

The think the main problem with the races in ESO is all share the same skeleton and animations. If the humans, arogonian, elves, khajiit had different skeletons underneath and animiations that would have been huge in making the races feel a lot different.

I like my characters looking nice and everything on oblivion and skyrim for the most part was hit by the ugly stick if you didn't use mods.

In my view the elves of Elder Scrolls Online have softened a great deal, and lost a lot of that sense of the alien which in many ways is unfortunate as it defies the esthetic of previous elves in the series. It doesn't ruin the game for me. What struck me as odd is that I felt Naryu didn't look like the Naryu in game to me. Did anyone else feel that way?

They look that way in the trailer because that's what the actors looked like. The faces may be computer generated, but they're clearly modeled after real actors to help them look more realistic and less cartoony. It's an artistic choice, but not so much in the "this is how we envision it" way as in the "this is what we can cost-effectively do to make this look good with the tools we have" way.

Personally, I'm fond of the more pointy-featured elves. Morrowind and Skyrim really did it right, imo, by making the elves really look different and distinctive, and ESO continued that tradition.

Then there's the Oblivion elves, but we don't talk about those. :|

    Living vicariously through my characters.

    My Girls:
"If you were trapped in your house for, say, a year, how would you pass the time?"

Nephikah the Houseless, dunmer assassin: "I suppose I could use the break. I have a lot of business holdings now that need management."
Swum-Many-Waters, elderly argonian healer: "I think that I would enjoy writing a memoir."
Silh'ki, khajiit warrior-chef: "Would this one be able to go outside, to the nearby river? It's hard to fish without water!"
Peregrine Huntress, bosmer hunter: "Who is forcing me to stay inside, and where can I find them?"
Lorenyawe, altmer mechanist: "And why would I want to go outside in the first place? Too much to be done in the workshop."
Lorelai Magpie, breton master thief: "I'd go nuts. Lucky for me, I have a little experience sneaking out!"
Rasheda the Burning Heart, redguard knight: "I would continue my training to keep my skills sharp."
Hex-Eye Azabi, khajiit daedric priestess: "I suppose it would be lucky, then, that I built a shrine to Mephala in my backyard."
Yngva Stormhammer, nord bandit (reformed...ish): "I hate being inside even when I'm not forced to be. GET. ME. OUT."
Madam Argentia, vampire dunmer aristocrat: "I suppose it would be more of the same. I have a rather... contentious relationship with the sun."
Mazie gra-Bolga, orc scout: "Uh... I'd have to house train my bear..."
Felicia the Wanderer, imperial witch-for-hire: "What Lorelai said."
Calico Jaka-dra, retired khajiit pirate: "This one would like a rest from her grand adventures. Her jewel shop runs out of stock!"
Shimmerbeam, blind altmer psijic: "Provided that I am confined to Artaeum, I do not think I will want for things to occupy my time."
Shauna Blackfire, redguard necromancer: "Sounds like paradise. I hate people."
Kirniel the Undying, cursed bosmer warrior: "I would feel useless, not being able to fight."
Echoes-from-Dragons, argonian who thinks she's a dragon: "All the better to count my hoard!"

(Signature idea shamelessly stolen from Abeille.)
