Video: Chest Hide & Seek

Near the Seaside Sanctuary wayshrine... Can't seem to grab a chest, nor the two crocs guarding it. As you can see in the video, I can draw them away and kill them, but if I approach the shoreline, they disappear and reset when they reappear. I also noticed that my bow AOE will disappear when I cross the invisible line.

Logged off and returned to the same chest and it continues to happen.

I play on Pc, NA server. I was having this same exact issue on Friday, March 22, 2017. Only my issue wasn't just the 1 chest and 2 crocodiles, it was multiple chests In the same area. Greenshade/Sea Side Sanctuary and the surrounding area. I would see a chest, not very far away, and as I approached it would completely disappear, if I walked away it would return, reapproach and poof, gone. Tried to submit a bug report however, I must not have givin some needed info because, I was told they could not help me. Anyway, after approaching several, 3 or more, chest and have this same disappearing act happen, I just gave up! Please fix! Thank you for your time!

Welcome to "phasing" of an area based on your progress through the quest that makes the area change.
You are seeing the chest in a different "phase"(a whole other parallel dimension, so to speak) because you are not on the same part of the quest that wuld load the area where the chest is in.

This happens all over the world for any area that changes. Seaside Sanctuary is enemy held until you complete the quests there, for example, and the NPCs move back in after.
You may even have completed the quest but the chests are in the version of the area that is uncompleted so you can't access them while players who are just starting the area can.

    Fact of game-life.

Thanks for the explanation. This helps clear up the mechanics of the bug. I think that phasing significant interactables like chests is kinda significant since it’s a waste of time for a player to draw to it only to have it vanish. The player experience is diminished and harmed, even tho this is a cause/effect of zoning or phasing. I’ve not seen this in other MMO’s I’ve played which phase environments based on quests; altho ESO has tons more interactables that are shared among players. I wonder if this is a better way of removing certain interactables from being present altogether for situations like this to prevent wasting a player’s time or harming the experience. Has ZOS opined on this at all? I can’t seem to find.

This has been like this since the game released. It probably has been /bug'd 100's of times, I know I have done a dozen of them myself.

Just ignore the chest, treat it as a mirage or the after affects of the pollen of the weird flowers around there.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Yep. Now that I know what’s up I’m on my way to more adventuring! Will prolly laugh at the next phasing instance I see. Thankfully this game excels at a lot of things; I was just losing my mind with this haha. Cheers.

I was in the area on an Alt who had not done the quests in that zone. I could see the chest, pick the lock and play with the crocs.

So, it seems to only happen to Alts who have done some questing in the area.
