Morrowind Collector's Edition vs Collector's Edition Upgrade price, unfair?

What exactly happened with the price here. I only have the numbers in danish crowns but how can the upgrade to digital collector's edition barely be cheaper than getting a second copy of the game with the collector's edition? Why do people who already have the game barely get the upgrade any cheaper?

Like the base game costs 225dkk, the upgrade on top of that is 550dkk. If don't have the game already it's only 595dkk.

Shouldn't it be more like 370dkk? At first when I went on the side it said 450dkk which seemed fine but then the price jumped up 100dkk for some reason.

It's an incentive to new players to pick up the game.
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

It's confusing partially because there are so many different versions. In the UK (and with prices rounded up to whole pounds) it's:

    Base Game: £20
Base Game + DLC Pack: £40
    Morrowind Upgrade: £30
    Base Game + Morrowind: £40
    Morrowind Collectors Upgrade: £50
Base Game + Morrowind Collectors Upgrade: £65

I think it's basically a bundle deal, like the Gold Edition which gets you the base game and the DLC (and a horse) for less than if you bought them separately.

So one way to think about it is just Morrowind on it's own costs £30, no matter which version you buy £30 of it is paying for Morrowind. Then whatever else you pay is the cost of the other stuff. So if you get the base game with it you're only paying £10 for the whole base game (but unlike the gold edition you'll have to pay extra for the DLC). If you get the Collector's Upgrade you're paying £20 for the horse and the spider pet and the other bits.

(And if you get the base game and Morrowind and the collecors edition bits you're getting a raw deal because it costs £5 more than it should based on the other versions.)

One thing to bear in mind though - it's highly likely that if you buy Morrowind + the base game you will get 1 account key that unlocks both, so you won't be able to use it to upgrade an existing account and create a new one.

I agree that it's probably made to look good for new people but to us, the people who already owns the game, people who have put time and money into the game. To us it makes it like we are being treated worse.

I am really bothered by this. Like I'm sitting here doing spreadsheets to see what I already know. That it doesn't look fair.

If I didn't care about this game it wouldn't bother me but I do. I will end up buying it anyway because I want it and I hate that I do. That's really not how it should be..

It's all this on top of the fact that I don't see a difference between dlc and expansion packs. It's just words that in the end mean the same thing. I've subscribed since the release and gotten all I was promised for doing so. The new plan makes it unprofitable for them to let someone subscribe for a month and try Morrowind and the new class wouldn't be locked on already created characters after the subscription runs out.. I get that.

    It's just not fair.

If Morrowind was released over a longer period in smaller sizes more akin to the current "dlc" zones so people couldn't just subscribe for a month and try it all for less than the cost of buying the full pack up front this problem wouldn't be there.

But then we got new classes which already in itself can cause the whole "pay to win" thing to appear if it's ever stronger than the base game classes. You could make a character with that class and play outside your 1 month of subscription and expect not to get locked out of it because that would cause an uproar.

So yeah I get why something this big isn't part of ESO+ but the price could at least be fair.

So, bearing in mind the cost to buy just the Morrowind Upgrade on it's own without the base game or any bonus items or anything: What would you consider a fair price for the Collector's Upgrade?

I would lower it from the 550DKK to 450DKK. That's about £10. The normal version and upgrade version have a 150DKK difference while the CE and CE upgrade only has about a 50DKK difference. So that would make them cost the same + all the collector's edition stuff even if you already own the game.

I'm very tired right now and should probably be going to bed but its basically this:

    Morrowind
    • Normal version: 449.00 kr. - Upgrade version: 299.99 kr. - Difference: 149.01 kr.
    Morrowind Collector's Edition
    • Normal version: 594.99 kr. - Upgrade version: 549.00 kr. - Difference: 45.99 kr.

So it's 100DKK more expensive for people who already have the game.

I might need to sleep on it but my point is that it shouldn't be more expensive to get the CE edition for people who already own the game. If you don't already own the game the Collector's edition is 549DKK worth of Morrowind and CE stuff and the base game is only worth 45DKK.

If we could give the base game away to someone else I would be more interested but I would guess it's only one code that adds the whole game to your account so that's not even worth it if that's the case.

It's all giving me a sour taste in the mouth which feels wrong when you actually want to buy it.

That kinda sounds like a mistake. The USD prices (I just checked) are $79.99 for the digital collector's edition, $59.99 for the upgrade. For the non-collector's version, the base release costs $59.99, while the non-CE upgrade is $39.99. So $39.99 for Morrowind, $20 for the base game, and $20 for the CE content.

I think there has been a mistake somewhere.. Just like the price being lower at first and then suddenly jumping up 20% within the first few hours.

It's going beyond absurd, because they're keeping their silence about it. They should just come out and state that "yes, this is intended that the collector's upgrade in euros and krones is way more expensive than it is in US dollars or pounds, because reasons". Now they simply see that the Morrowind-crazed fans are buying it anyway, so there's literally no need to fix it.

I'm an idiot and pre-ordered the Digital CE before checking the Amazon Prime pricing. For $15 more I would have definitely went with the Physical CE. I'm super pissed now. lol
