Hello,

I am think about coming back to the game after quite some time away and reading all the new updates it sounds awesome and Morrowind sounds great!. I was just wondering what the current total game download/file size is, I have a bandwidth cap on my internet and would like to avoid overage charges if possible. My folder from when i played is currently 41.2GB. I would just like to know the current size to get a rough idea. I played in the NA server only and stopped a few weeks after Imperial City was released.

Thanks in advance for the help.

My live folder is 50.4 GB. There is another 100MB outside that folder also (launcher folder etc.)

Now I have heard that the game requires more hard drive space initially than that, because it unpacks a lot of stuff but I think that was a hard drive space problem, not a download size problem.

So I would probably be looking at like an addition 9GB of download from my files current state?

The PTS Folder, essentially the next Update, is 52.8GB. Some of that can be reduced if you eliminate the extra language files, but I think that only gains you about 4 GB or so.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Well, the problem is that many files may need to be updated, in addition to completely new files. Unfortunately it is not as simple as just adding the new stuff.

So it is going to be 9++ GB for sure.

edit: and as far as I can tell, when ZoS updates a file they need to replace the whole thing. They are unable to incrementally update their files.

Does that mean i essentially have to redownload the full 52.4GB?

I doubt that. But it will be more than 9GB. I think if you start up the patcher it may analyze your files for a minute, then when it starts to download it will give you the full amount. At that point you can see if it is too outrageous for you.

I don't see anywhere on the patcher that gives a full amount it needs to download, its down a few like 50-100mb patches or whatever but no thing that says like "xxGB remaining to download". Where would i find the total remaining

It seems they follow the same model as previous games in having a "database" for the Textures, sounds and whatnot. To an extent, replacing some of those files sometimes requires replacing the entire database it's in. But these databases are smaller in size than you might thing. But from my bar watching during updates (and I don't hawk eye the entire time) most of what is downloaded is new stuff rather than replacements. I have noticed that the Patch Application portion can be much bigger chunks of data, but that does not mean it downloaded all that it just applies the patch to larger pieces than it downloads.

Xbox does seem to work differently than the PC in this regard, but I have to wonder how much the figures people see are the patch being applied vs what is actually downloaded.

No. It might be more than 9GB, but probably not much more.

Sorry man, it's been a long time since I paid attention to it. Part of the joy of having ridiculously high bandwidth and virtually unlimited data.

I though the patcher displayed a "downloading xxGB" intermixed with "applying patch xxGB", but the download part was the whole amount that just got smaller as it progressed. I could very well be wrong. :(
