A plea to ZOS: For the love of God, please remove the ugly stitching on altmer clothing

I've made this thread to politely ask ZOS to remove the ugly, ridiculous stitching on the altmer light and medium sets.

For me, I absolutely despise the altmer light and medium styles:

Altmer-Rawhide-Female-Close-Front.jpg

I honestly for the life of me can't figure out what ZOS was thinking. Why did they consciously add the clumsy, ugly stitching all over the armor? What's the rationale for this? Is it meant to imply that the altmer are poor tailors or don't care for aesthetics? Because that's the only explanation I can think of.

To be fair we have almost no reference for what altmer clothing is supposed to look like, aside from three previous examples, the first of which has likely been retconned with most of the PGE1 era lore:

So am I the only one who thinks it's strange that altmer clothing looks like it was crafted by a half-blind skooma-sucker? Why do you think ZOS designed them like this? And if ZOS is listening (which is highly unlikely I know) then could you please change this? You've changed armor sets before, and I'm not sure anyone would complain if you fixed this.

I totally agree with you on this one, but I'd take it a couple steps further.

I feel that it is time that they update all the original styles to give them a fresh look, just like how they updated the Redguard and Orc styles. Some of the original styles are fine as they are, but getting a minor touch up couldn't hurt.

On top of this, I would also like to be able to craft max level gear that looks like the lower level gear. This is mostly because the low level Dwemer shield is one of my favorite shields in the game, while at the same time, the max level Dwemer shield is one of my least favorite shields.

There is no way I can get that low level style for my max level gear, and it saddens me.

lol, different parts of ZoS work on different things at the same time, there's no reason this issue can't be addressed at the same time as what ever got your undies in a twist.

Aesthetics, lore, and atmosphere matter to me, I guess?

I have plenty of motifs. That's no excuse for ZOS to ruin the style of my favorite race.

I agree. The stitching always looked very ugly to me and I don't see why proud Altmer would wear such a thing ...

In my head-canon I deal with it by pretending the thick stitches are actually thin ribbon with the geneology of the Altmer in question woven into them.

Exactly! It's just so jarring and against everything altmer are supposedly about. I feel the same way when I'm sitting in one of their dull, grey stone hovels, wondering why the khajiit live in luxury while we live in squalor. Sometimes I feel like ZOS just hates us...

Absolutely agree with this. Thanks to costumes, I can hide the ghastly appearance of higher end armour, but there's no way to disguise weapons in the same way.

I like the rough stitching effect. Aesthetics matter to me just as much as they matter to you and other people and so I would hate to see that particular look removed from armour completely. However, I can see your point. Even though I don't particularly like it and don't wear it, Altmer armour has an elegance to it and the rough stitching on the Altmer motif, and perhaps a few others, doesn't fit with what we understand as their culture.

I always get worried about these threads nowdays.
Ever since back at after launch we commented on the floating redguard shoulders in this outfit:

    Rev%20Oufit%2046%20Ebonthread%20epic_zps25hpyd7d.jpg

And we ended up with the fashion disaster that is the current redguard light armour...

But do you like the giant ugly stitches everywhere? And if so, why? It feels like an insult to everyone who likes altmer to make their clothing look so amateurish compared to everyone else.

Was googling altmer clothing and stumbled upon this. Seriously, I'm relieved to know I'm not the only one who feels this way. There is absolutely no reason for that stitching to be there and it just makes altmer clothes look ugly. I swear, it feels like ESO is mocking everyone who likes altmer lore. First, they make our cities look gray and boring, while the khajiit get opulent colorful ones, and now they decided to make it look like our clothing was stitched by sweat-shop children.

No one is saying there aren't multiple interpretations of the lore, and we're not arguing that ESO did it "wrong".

We're arguing that they decided to go for the most boring, mundane, seen-before interpretation possible. Like they almost always do, unless they can ride on the coat-tails of past games.
