Hey all, picked up ESO again since well over a year ago, my character is an Aldmeri NB Woodelf. Completed the prologue, exited Coldharbour, and its put me somewhere ive never been before and dont recognise?

Has there been an update that changes the opening faction mission? Correct me if im wrong but previously with the Aldmeri, wasnt the opening mission working with the queens guard hunting out an imposter?

Ive started the game with all 3 factions before but on this occasion im definitely somewhere i dont recognise.

Thanks for help in advance.

Maybe they brought you to one of the starting islands instead of the first faction zone?

Yes the game now puts you on Khenarthi's Roost if you start out on AD as it used to at launch. It is the beginner's island after all. You can use the wayshrines, navigator or boat to take you elsewhere. Or you can use your friend list or guild rosters to port to players for free

New characters now start off on one of three islands instead of the first major alliance zone. I think they made this change sometime last year. (When I first played, you arrived in the first zone, then were asked to travel to the starting island to proceed.)

Just like it did in the beginning...

Dunno why they made it like that tho. It makes no sense to be rescued, brought to the first zone only to return to the starter island afterwards. Glad they made it back the way it was before

The quest that you're talking about here was never actually the opening quest for AD, it was always the quest you were supposed to start after completing the quests on Khenarthi's Roost. The difference is that the game used to start a new AD character in Auridon, and expect you to pick up a quest sending you by boat to Khenarthi's Roost and do your questing there before doing anything in Auridon.

It frankly never made sense, and they've now reverted it to the way it was in beta, so you actually start on the starter island for your alliance, instead of starting in the zone you're supposed to go to after completing the starter islands. It's now the way it always should have been - the only reason they changed it between the beta and launch is because a few very vocal idiots complained about starting on the starter islands, and ZOS made the huge mistake of listening to them.

Yeah, the game is much, much better now when you actually start on the starting isles. You can still bypass them or course, but... it makes a lot more sense if you don't. You get your starter levels, a nice bit of gear to help you on your way, some skyshards and can have a nice time getting a leg up on crafting stocks...

And as has been mentioned, it never made any sort of sense for you to get rescued, shipped to the first map city, and be expected to go back to thank your rescuer and start the starter isle questline... much better to be rescued there, get through the questline which will end with you entering the first map city anyhow...

Wasn't it because a bunch of beta players and streamers were complaining that it wasn't Elder Scrolls enough because it wasn't fully open to the entire world right after the intro?

I'm glad they put it back the way it was meant to be. The story was so disconnected before and many players missed two mini zones because it.

ZOS continually makes the mistake of listening to those very few and very vocal idiots when they complain about something
