Thoughts on /assist?

This has probably been in discussion before, but not in too recent memory or as I age so goes that.

What do you think about ZoS add an /assist feature? This would allow for better targeting in pve and pvp groups while also allowing a group to assign a "main assist". I personally think it would lead to the evolution of group play from what it is now, especially in pvp. Group tactics now revolve around camping structures or running around with destro ulti's flying. Being able to main assist when attacking would allow groups to counter key targets in opposing groups and forgo all the blind aoe and general craziness which is the state of things atm. I've used it in other pvp mmos and it was alot of fun.

Of course there are drawbacks, but what do you all think?

    My apologies.

    Lets say somebody has something targeted, then by targeting that player and using an /assist feature, your target is what they are targeting.

    I've seen it where you could assign a key, as designed by the game, to "main assist" a particular player. So by pressing one button while targeting a friendly you make them the main assist and then by using the key to assist you target whatever that person is targeting until you switch that main assist assignment.

    This takes me back to SWG days and Zerg targeting .

    For those that don't know /assist would have you auto target the target of the person you are assisting . Imagine 24 players with target focus .

    I wouldn't recommend auto target, I'd prefer click /assist for each new target as was in DAOC and 24 players running it gets a little hairy due to range and other restrictions.

    Wouldn't this just be a Dev sanctioned version of an Aimbot?

    Assist only makes sense in a call n respond type game. This action based combat is too fast for it.

    WoW was the last MMO that had it built in but this game doesnt truly have macros

    I think it would be fine if it worked just like our current targeting works. Just makes the glowing outline of what your target is, but still up to you to make sure you have it targeted instead of that damn critter that always gets in the way when you use an ultimate...

    So with what u said here.....the target feature could just be expanded so others in your group could see it. Possibly in Trials, you be able to designate 2 or three ppl whose highlighted target shows to all but not their active target so to speak as that's too easy to see if it's a tank

    with the over the top damage already in the game a /assist would ruin PvP. We know ESO cannot separate PvE and PvP so even if it was something good for PvE it would still ruin PvP
