How is Class Balance?

Just curious, how is balance between the different classes. I know right now there is balance issues with gear sets and what not, so let's exclude that. My question is concerning just the classes themselves in all game modes. Are they pretty even, are do some classes under/over-perform?

That's nonsense. Gear stats, weapon and armour passives are a huge part of character builds. You can't compare classes in an artificial environment where they fight eacht other naked and without weapons.

Class balance is fine, it's the meta balance that is not. PvP says heavy armor is OP. PvE there is no need for any other role then a DPS build aside from VR trials. To me the balance is a swirling pool of directionless patches that reduce game dicculty and mechanics while inflating resistances to milk the fights longer. This only incentives the dps meta

Sure they play a huge part, but it also completely possible to judge how classes perform compared to eachother if they were to use the same or very similar gear setups. My main reason for excluding comments about gear is because I am well aware that a generic question about balance would be answered with a bunch of statements about how certain gear sets are destroying balance, which doesn't do anything to answer my question about the balance between the classes themselves.

Compared to launch the balance is tremendously improved. You can make a viable character with any of the 4 classes, both stamina and magicka flavors.

They all end up in the same spot in pve ,Dps. It does not matter the class they all end up there at the end game

balance is great if you exclude this and that and the other...

balance is horrible when you exclude this and that and the other.

but despite that, balance is a kind of ok but not great if you exclude this and that and the other.

Especially when focusing on those kinds of issues.

DPS is pretty well rounded across classes and resources, if you tank as a non-DK getting into trials is going to nigh impossible, if you heal as a non-templar you might be able to squeak in as the secondary heals in a trial.

anything less than trials? Free game, do whatever you want! Pretty good balance in general.

class balance isn't bad. Content balance could use some tweaks, but really only thing i'd personally ask for class balance would be to re-implement soft caps so hybrids were viable.
