Whats up with the phrase "exposed"?

It seems to be a very popular saying on xbox. I get the meaning I guess I just think the idea is weird. I dont play pvp but I dabble in dueling and it seems like everyother time I lose someone says "exposed". Idk maybe its because I have Maelstrom weapons but it seems like people have assumptions that I think Im really good at Pvp or something.

Not as bad as everyone describing something difficult or challengeing as 'aids' though. You know you're really cool when you use that one..8 -

I believe the term is supposed to be used when somebody who likes to show off or brag about how great they are gets killed. Like if somebody claims to be the best PVPer in the game and I kill them in a duel, I exposed that they are indeed not the best PVPer in the game. It is especially relevant when you kill somebody who is trying to talk trash to you and say that they are so much better than you specifically. Like if I were to kill somebody in a 4v1 fight and they whispered me saying I was terrible for zerging them down and could never kill anybody in a 1v1, especially them, and then proceeded to kill them in a 1v1.
But ever since "exposing" somebody became more popular it seems like some people like to use it whenever they kill anybody, regardless of whether or not that person was talking trash or said they were good at PVP.4 -

It began about a decade ago to describe players with a poor attitude or those who didn't show up when they were expected.
