Will we ever just be able to change alliances?

My original toon was DC. I never really connected with a good group till my son started an account and wanted to be an elf. I started an AD toon to play with him. Then I made all these great friends. My DC toon was so far along in crafting that I kept her. I would like to switch her alliance so all my toons are AD, since I have started to do more PVP. I like that toon and I want to play her more.

All my characters are now DC, but I deleted a few EP and AD toons with tons of hours in them because of that.

I really wish they would implement this, but with very harsh restrictions. One time per character, one time per year, very expensive, I don't know, just sometime that makes it a very costly decision to prevent people exploiting it.

Probably not. I mean, at this point you can simply run content wherever you want, so the only thing you're missing out on is PvP.

It is kinda ridiculous that you can change your race, your name, your appearance... but even with "any faction any race" pack, you can't change Alliance. It doesn't really affect me as I have only one DC char that is a mule.. all my other characters are EP. It would still be nice to have the option for people like the OP. Perhaps a 'one time only' Alliance change or something like that.

Last word I can recall from the developers was that they are still considering it... so I wouldn't hold my breath, it may come at some time, but... it certainly won't be anytime soon.

But the topic has been mentioned many, many times before, so there is quite a bit of demand for this.

Personally I hope they will do it, but do it right. Not just some service token in the crown store that pops you over to another alliance... but an epic "cloak and dagger" style questline with a "faction loyalty called in question" theme to it, and a big choice in the middle - stay loyal to your faction (and spend the rest of the questline finding out who framed you, catch the true villain and prove your loyalty) or defect to greener pastures (and spend the rest of the questline preparing your escape, stealing some secrets to bring to the alliance you want to defect to and dodging your former comrades trying to stop you). And a nifty title, depending which way you go... either "(original faction) Loyalist" or "(original faction) Defector"...

Such a questline yould take place all over the non-DLC world, reusing some old maps that were in story quests and then never revisited... so it might be less effort for the developers then making something up completely from scratch... but it certainly would be neat to have many old and familiar faces around. I mean, if your character wanted to defect from the covenent, I am certain crafty Larissa knows a guy who knows a cat who might be named Razum-dar and can make some suggestions to that effect... ;)

Making completion of cadwells a prerequesite for this would also be possible, as it might prevent questline entanglements (I mean... just think about it, if you were to switch while in the mainstroy... how would that go? Do DC until riventpire, then switch to AD... do you start AD from the beginning, and then contime the mainstory there? Or get thrown into AD in the middle? And what will be your cadwells silver/gold then? Or what if you go thrtough the mainstory in DC, start cadwells silver in AD, then switch to AD as base allaince, making the new cadwells sliver DC, and denying you the new cadwells gold because you ylaready finished DC...) but since One Tamriel, that is less of an issue then it used to be (because now you -could- just clear the questings whenever, and count for cadwells on the side anyhow). Other "let's not have entabglements" prerequesites might be completing your original faction questlines, or the mainstory... but as said, it could be bypassed with a bit of effort these days.

Another thing theorized about have been drawbacks for defecting. Like... reduced AP gains in cyrodil for defectors, since noone really trusts a traitor... and increased rewards if killed by their original faction since... well... noone really likes being betrayed either. And such drawbacks would help balance the fears of PvP imbalances where too many people might migrate to the "winning side"...

It's needed, even if a one time switch. So Manu people start casual, unaware of the choices, play solo, then find a gang, guild, and have their loved main in the wrong colour.

If you're the wrong colour you certainly don't want to join AD. Those reeducation camps...

I think it should take a quest, like you can kill 1 player of your own colour once quest started. Again just a one time switch ti stop abuse / trolling. Haha

I think we should have the option of changing alliance, most definitely.
But our alliance rank should be reset to 2 when we do so, along with all associated skill-points, achievements, dyes, etc.
If you can be anything, be kind.

Yeah I really support this option as too many people have invested months into their characters and its a huge waste of time to recreate a new one and have to regrind mages guild/skill points/achievements skills etc. Just to play in a certain PvP alliance. Just have a setback like your pvp rank resets or something.

I for one would think resetting the PvP would make a great deal of sense... though it would be iffy to do, since PvP ranks also come with skill points people may have already spent - and a defection should under NO circumstances allow them to earn these skill points twice!

How-ever... how about they can not progress any further until they earned their current rank again? Which would be the transition period in which they'd have to prove to their new alliance they really, really are not a double agent...

Pretty sure the only Argonian sympathizers are in The Dominion. The Pact knows how to keep the lizards in their place. Also, if your Breton has turned blue, you can let go; job's done. :p

Theres already loads of double agents. Were talking somebody who has 3-4 chars maxed out on 1 alliance undaunted 9/mages guild/skill points etc. Then decides he wants to switch to another alliances because he found a cool group of friends there / decided his alliance was useless etc. Imagine regrinding all those chars he loves playing all over again. You're looking at months.
