Why does Summon Volatile Familiar level up so slowly?

Is it glitched or suppose to be that way? Any advice for getting it to level faster or should I just ignore it?

Skills level up pretty slow till your toon is max level. Once at max you can level up a skill line fairly quick in just a few random dungeons.

Volatile familiar is a morph, thus levels slower
- Morphs level slower than an unmorphed ability occupying the same position in the skill tree.
- Skills which are lower in the skill tree level slower than the ones which are higher.
- Ultimates level slower than normal abilities.

I recently leveled weapon ultimates, which are unlocked at 50, on my main character - skills lines were already at 50 but all my skill points were invested in research - and the grind was simply insane. Class ultimates, which are unlocked at 12 are far easier to level.
