Magika DPS / Tank Build Help

Hi All,

Thanks for those that helped me figure out my race and alliance for this build.

I'm currently level 7 and playing through the Ebonheart Pact. I am going to play mostly solo until I get into Champion Point system, so I know how important my output in damage is going to be for the short and even long term. So I have a few questions that I hope the experts here can help me with as I progress my character.

Attribute Points. I current Have 5 in Health and 1 in both Stamina and Magika. How should I go forward with my Attribute Points to ensure I can play solo and eventually tank end game content. I was thinking about going with even distribution as I plan to mainly tank once I get high enough; however, I am all ears on this and would like some input here to ensure I do not have to respect later on.

Skills:
This is the next item to discuss. I imagine with me being Dark Elf my focus would be on Flame class skills and less on the Weapon side, maybe the exception being a flame destruction staff. I know I need to increase my Sword and Skill skill and that is what I am currently working on. Than there is armor as well. I'm trying to always wear 1-2 heavy pieces with 1 medium and the rest Light to unlock the skills more in the Light and Heavy due to the build I'm want to achieve.

Here are the skills I am currently invested into thus far...

Ardent Flame: Lava Whip & Searing Strike
Draconic Power: Spiked Armor & Dark Talons
Earthen Heart: Stone Fist & Molten Weapons
Light Armor: Evocation
Dark Elf: Dynamic

Please feel free to share your thoughts on which Skills to focus on as I level up my character. I know there will be other skills such as the weapons, Fighter Guild, Mage Guild, Legionare, Soul Magic, and crafting to consider as I gain more Skill Points.

The last item I want to discuss is gear setup for my DPS and once I hit tank. Talking about end game gear won't help me at this point but discussion on about what each piece of armor should be and why will help me out as I level up my character.

I know cloth armor has a defense rating than heavy or medium and therefore cloth typically should be equipped in the lower defense areas: Feet, Hands and Waist. The Chest and Legs I should probably equip heavy and than medium on the shoulders or head and equip the last piece as either heavy or cloth. That was my thought on gear as I level to ensure I can get the benefits of both heavy and light armor from my skill points, but I would like to hear from the experience players what would benefit me the most as I leveled up.

Weapons. I know I need to use Sword & Shield and I am currently using that but would it be better for me long term to use the destruction staff as a Magika base DK DPS?

I am new to ESO and I'm willing to read up on builds and such as well but google has not been kind to me, so if you have a link that would help answer some of my questions, that would be much appreciated.

I strongly advice you to just play especially if you're only level 7 on your first character.

Don't focus on getting it all right so you don't have to respec later, respec is easy and you're best bet for now is to level both sword+shield and another weapon skill line. Since you mention Destro staff i assume you find that most interesting so go for that.

Level as many skills as you can to get a feel for them. Seriously theres enough time to start thinking about end game build when you reach CP ranks.
English is not my native language, no grammar police please, tyvm

This technically isn't my first character. I did play a Sorc back when ESO hit PS4 in 2015 for a few months. I was near end game but stopped playing due to other MMO commitments. Now that I'm freed up I am investing myself into this game to get the most out of my recent financial investment into ESO.

Do you want to play tank or Magikca DPS?

There is Magikca DK tank (heavy armored) and there is Dragonmage (Light armored).
If you are intending to use both magikca and stamina that only really works for tanking.

My dragonmage has 10 in health and everything else in Magicka

Firey breath, Burning embers (claw morph), Lava whip. Are your core abilities they have excellent synergy.

For destruction staff/flame. The elemental wall does a lot of damage over time it is one of the best abilities.
I like to combine that with talons to trap mobs on the wall.

I would just try out abilities to and rotations to see what feels best for you.
I liked to use a lot of the CC abilities such as stone fist and destructive blast (the one that knocks back) when i was leveling but eventually I was just out putting so much damage that i didn't need them.

As for gear you are in EP silks of the sun and mothers sorrow will drop for you during the story use them they work nicely

For now I want to focus more on improving my DK magika DPS. As time goes on I will work on some items for tanking.

You could invest in just Magicka because that's what your damage shield and armour buff skill use, and next update you'll be able to block using Magicka while a frost staff is equipped. If you don't have enough health by level 50 then you can respec your attributes, but before level 50 with health food and 5 pieces of heavy armor you can easily have 30k+ health. Levelling will be hard splitting your attribute points too.

Going forward I will put more points into Magika and when two points are awarded it will go into Health and Stamina.
