Magplar VMA build questions

I know that most people suggest 3 willpower, 2 skoria, 5 julianos, 2 torugs and inferno/resto staff for a magplar vma build but what about replacing the weapons and jewelry with rattlecage?

I figure that I wouldn't have to slot entropy (or waste money on potions) to get that major sorcery and so I could slot something else like inner light or repentance. I feel like a problem with this build would be sustain since I'm missing out on 1400 magicka from willpower and will probably have to wear two pieces of heavy rattlecage armor (since I doubt I can get sharpened rattlecage weapons soon). Maybe having atronach instead of thief could help but idk if the damage loss is worth it.

What do you guys think? Btw I have two gem of curses so I can have both spell damage and reduce magicka cost for my rings if that matters.

Put it this way I've done Maelstrom over 500 times (easily hands down) 150 + runs on my twitch page which is recent LOL.

What I can tell you about Magicka and STAM is that the difference between 1-5k is so small it's generally not noticeable so don't stress with that.

Honestly, your gear is fine. I wouldn't think about changing it, pretty much right on.

I would consider that you don't run trials so you don't have access to Infal Aether set 5% more damage to mobs basically.

Unfortunately VMA is an expense either way you look at it.

I would do what is suggested as you had above in your first paragraph.

Sorry about the Regen - seeing as you're new to vMA I wouldn't go running MAX/MAX run the 5000 HP and 487 Recovery instead until you're at peace with the arena trust me it's a life saver when learning hands down.

Rattlecage is ok for Templars if you got the sharp swords and arcane gems Inc the neck which seems very rare. Saves using entropy.

Personally I run 3 aether and 2 willpower swords. It's also quite effective on a templar to run a willpower sword and shield. You can block a lot of damage with a temp and just jab your way through it. Whilst still having 45k magika.

Alternatively a cheesy way is 5 aether and 5 elegant and a sharp lit staff with power glyph. Just stand in retribution, bane, blockade and hold trigger. Nova for some rounds and meteor.

Well like I said I have two gem of curses, which is the arcane rattlecage rings, and the arcane necklace so I'm good there (got them while farming worm). While I don't have the swords, I figure I'd use julianos swords instead since I feel like the 5 piece bonus on rattlecage outweighs the bonus on julianos for when I have a staff out.

While I suck at vma (I die a lot), I am not new to it as I usually run it on my stam dk. With VO, my damage, sustain, and mobility are not an issue. The problem is survivability which is why I want to use my magplar instead (unfortunately I do not have aether). Essentially, I'm asking if rattlecage is a better alternative than willpower and torugs/random staff, and if it's better for me to run destro if sustain would not be an issue or resto if it is.

For VMA I use 5 rattle/5 juli/2 groth. Works just fine.

What set do you use for your weapons, julianos or rattlecage, and why? Also, how is your sustain? Do you feel that your sustain is good enough to use a destro staff over resto?

I use Rattle jewelry all arcane, 2 ratt swords both sharp, juli on the body 5/1/1 and then an extra juli destro sharp on back because I haven't landed the maelstrom destro or a rattle destro sharp.

I run red frothgar and tri-pots. I don't have any sustain issues

Forgot I switched it up, I run rate chest divines and one sharp rat sword with one juli sword , that way to get 4 piece ratt on back bar

Rattlecage is fantastic set and is overlooked a lot imho... Just two days ago i finally got my first Flawless.
Altmer templar using 5 Rattle + 5 Thunderbug with precise Ice and sharp Resto vMA staves. Healthy Thunderbug jewelry with magicka regen. Full divine and Thief.
My time was 1h 19min with 448k score.

Had another run with my bosmer templar testing 5 Rattle + 5 Storm Knight. Died once on final boss, too many hits landed at same time and small personal fail due excitement. I think that i like the Thunderbug spelldmg bonus better than the Storm Knight hp though.
The 5th bonus of Thunderbug and Storm Knight are insignificant in vMA tbh and im replacing the 5th piece with Kena now.

Sustain is suprisingly good, thanks to HA passives Rapid Mending and Constitution.
Rattlecage allows to drink tripots. I had ton of old Elixirs from alchy training so they finally found use.

My advice is that try the full 7 piece heavy setup.
Btw, the Gem of Curses is bugged. It doesn't actually provide dual enchants.

What's an acceptable CP level to start running vMA as a Magicka Templar? I gave it a shot at cp260 and I got beat down pretty badly.

I would honestly talk a look at my maelstrom guide it's helped sooo many people it's not funny.

It is on a stam sorc but I explain absolutely everything.

On a magicka temp 260cp is going to be super dooper hard.

I would personally try to make some head way now, and stop when it all gets a bit much. Come back at 300-350.

Non the less hiting sigils at the exact right time and you'll breeze through it, all of which I explain in my videos.

Let me know if you need help.
