Seriously, this alert along with other incoming attack alerts needs to be removed from addons. Element of surprise is gone. Skillless combat when you have a computing device telling you to dodge roll when you don't even know an attack is incoming. Getting tiresome watching people dodge my cripple at the last second without even turning around to see it incoming. I'm pretty sure they didnt just mouse look behind beause they are that aware. The dodge looks timed every single damn time at the same interval as if they just received the warning. This happens all the damn time from 99% of the population. What ever happened to l2p, now we just have addons that l2p for us. Rant over...

    I see it a lot with frags too. So many times you can wail on someone from range - yet as soon as you throw that empowered frag - dodge-roll - whether looking in my direction or not. Yes, it could just be chance, it could be player skill - seeing the curse, and counting to 3.5 seconds before executing that dodge-roll *just* when you hut the frag button.. it could be skill.. but if that's the case, there are a LOT of people out there who can time my burst better than I can...

    That doesn't sound fun at all. I'm glad I play on console. Do you know the satisfaction of running away from a zerg, and anticipating that frag and see it go over your head as you dodge? Yeah. Great feeling. B)

    I used to duel a friend of mine (NB gank build) the way I beat him was that I heard the arrow he shoots before ambushing me and doing his incap etc. and because I heard it I could roll out of it and he was hit by my mines then I used curse, frags, force pulse and ulti to finish him >:D

    You know the uphill battle against gear was one thing but the definite uphill battle against API-addon-feeds seems a bit over the top.

    though, ramping up effect volume and down most other stuff and mapping dodge roll to a single mouse button can make a lot of difference.

    Not all that familiar with add-ons but a 3s counter display/tone set to go off when certain conditions applied would seem within the realm of possible and those private add-ons not necessarily available for everybody on PC.

    interesting that console competitive gameplay might be more "fair".

    Yes, I agree. I cringe when I see it on Youtube videos, as I'm sure such horrible UIs would turn some potential players away from the game. They really do look hideous.

    Just FYI, instant cast frag doesn't show up on Miat's alerts or any other addon that I'm aware of. It's only something with at least a minor casting time or channel that does.

    The problem with sorc against a competent player is that they can see Curse counting down on their debuff window, and that gives them a timer for knowing when your frag is going to come flying. It also becomes natural to hold block or dodge roll when you cast endless fury, because you are obviously expecting us to reach 20% health within the next 4 seconds... probably caused by a frag and curse or an ultimate. I can't count how many dawnbreakers I've blocked coming from sorcs who first casted endless fury on me. It's easily one of the most telegraphed classes in the game.

    @WalksonGraves

    It's been a while since I have touched it, and I can't log in right now to double check, plus I don't know what the console menus look like, but I am pretty sure it is the "Active Combat Tips" setting shown in this image:

    400px-Esointerfaceoptions.jpg

    Edit to add:

    It shows up as white text at the bottom of your screen, either just above or below the health bar.

    It looks like tutorial type tips but they pop up when the action should be performed.

    For instance on PC it'll say something like "Press mouse 1 and 2 to break free" when you are CC'd, or "Hold mouse 2 to block" when a telegraphed attack is being displayed by the enemy.

    This happens on console too. On pc, people get outplayed and like to take comfort in the fact that it MUST be an unfair fight on their part! Reality is, console pvp is same way, people aren't just gonna stand there while you burst them down.

    I didn't realize this until recently when someone told me, but these alerts are built into the base game. They are an option that can be toggled on and off

    Addons just move the location and allow you to change the text and so forth. These alerts won't be going anywhere.

    Seriously? I'm not seeing alerts anywhere in the settings on xbox.

    @WalksonGraves

    Finally, I can tank semi conscious and stoned without any surprises. I don't remember the combat tips ever telling me to dodge.

    It's there. It's a little wonky and doesn't always show if it's set to automatic. Always on tells for everything. It even tells you when to use a heavy to exploit off-balance and such

    But anyway, all those reactive alerts are base game, the addons on PC just make them a little more in-your-face

    If you set that to always on do you always get the "conversion imminent" on the vmol twins? Anyone know? Half the time you don't, just wondering if on automatically it's like a ....we've explain this twice and I ain't telling you again" kind of job

    @DDRXHarbinger

    You should get it at the twins. It always shows up for me :) but yea if it doesn't work just look at the big blue or yellow circle underneath you ;)

    With all the lag in trials on xbox, you can consider yourself lucky when you can SEE a frag proc. So we can't really count on the visual cues that much lol

    If you are talking about Miat's PvP add-on, you need to get over yourself, there have already been a couple other add-ons out for over a year that tell you when to dodge, block, etc. This is nothing new in that aspect.

    ^This.

    You'll get much further in PVP on console by learning the game well, and learning to anticipate skills associated with classes. Visual cues rarely line up with the skills they are associated with, and if you wait for the cue to respond you will not be able to block/dodge/cloak/shield in time.

    In general players class/resource combination will use the same small pool of skills and combinations. Only occasionally will you find someone using something unique while actually being any sort of threat.

    When I get killed by someone doing something different, I'm often going back to face them a few more times. Without an combat metrics or an accurate death recap, it requires some testing to figure out the combo's another player is using.
