Now (June 2017) its like 8k for 1 stack of 200 raw for blacksmithing and 6k for 1 gold temper and 2k for 1 refindes stack, that sums up to +/- 0 (zero) in the end if you sell or refine.
On top come the other small stuff that you can sell also, but you need 3 skill points and guilds to sell on the other hand.
When people say 10 at a time, is it "10 " in the refine window or "1"?
I just did 1,000 rubedite ores at "10" a time and every refine reduced my ore count by 100 ores.
Out of 1,000 ores i got 4 Tempers(and 4 refined ore stacks). Tempers currently are like 9k (pc avg) that's crappy compared to selling a stack of Rubedite ore at 12k. Would have been 60k(selling raw mats) compared to the 9k temper +refined ore stack @ 1.92k only about 43.68k. Even if i had gotten another temper(the avg) it still would have been less gold. I would have had to gotten better then avg results (6+tempers per 1k ores) to make a profit refining.
These seem to be similar to my past results which is why i never understood why people refined- you always seemed to lose money. Either RNGesus hates me and me alone or refining mats is just a huge gamble.
p.s. oh no... i necro'd this. Why did it allow me to post a comment rather then it being archived? crap. Well its still relevant to me.
To answer your first question, if you have a stack of raw ore-- let's say 200, which is a full stack-- and you refine it with the counter set to "1," that means 10 pieces of raw ore will be refined, since it takes 10 pieces. The "1" doesn't mean "refine 1 piece of raw ore," but rather "refine the stack of raw ore 1 time," where 1 time refines 10 pieces. So to refine a stack of 200, you could either refine it 20 times the counter set to "1," or refine it 1 time with the counter set to "20"-- or some other setting if you don't want to refine the entire stack at once, like set the counter to "5" and refine 4 times (50 pieces at a time), etc.
