BUG: Main Log-In Dialog Has Structural Flaw

On the Main Log-In Dialog, to the left side of the display the option "Server" appears in a column below the option "Play". Usually that option is "Server(NA)". Today, though, it did not have anything in parentheses (or the parentheses were empty, I can't recall which). That is a problem.

(1) Ordinarily, I execute the 64-bit game client directly with a desktop shortcut instead of using the one for the Launcher. I use the Launcher only when I need to use the Option to Repair Files after the game client crashes, or when I need to download an update to the game client. Presumably, Launcher will launch the 64-bit client because my computer has 64-bit architecture. However, many developers habitually launch their 32-bit client in "32-bit compatibility mode", even when they claim to be running a 64-bit client instead. (Don't ask me why they do that, ask them.) In my experience, 32-bit compatibility mode inevitably results in lesser performance and other potential problems. Regardless, even if Launcher does launch the 64-bit client, Launcher remains loaded, thus it occupies memory and used CPU cycles better employed by the 64-bit game client instead.

(2) Also, I installed the PTS files in a second partition on an SSD, where the live ESO game client(s) and files are installed in the first partition. I did that to facilitate deleting the PTS installation should I choose or need to do that, without mucking-up the SSD storage media for the live-client files in the process. And to play the PTS version of the game, I use a shortcut for Launcher that is configured to update, repair and/or launch only the PTS files, among which it is stored, of course.

So, I decided to play ESO on the PTS today. As far as I know, the PTS Launcher did launch a 64-bit game client. My goal was to access the Crown Store and preview the various and sundry choices for Homesteads. The offerings are named differently from how they are categorized in the PTS Patch Notes v 2.2.0 (Homestead) on this forum. But I previewed about six of the "Notable Homes". Also, I submitted a bug report with an attached screenshot for a UI Error message that was displayed while I was looking through the collection of previews. (There is a stack overflow in a C function.)

When I decided to Quit, I was returned to the Main Log-in Dialog display screen instead of the Windows 7 Professional (SP1) desktop. (This began happening after you added the "Server(--)" option to the column on the left side of that dialog.) I noticed that the second option on the left menu was different, as I described above. Ordinarily, I don't use any of those options except the last on the list, "Quit". That is, I simply log-in to play the game on the dialog that is displayed, or use "Quit" to return to the Windows desktop.

Out of curiosity I selected "Server" -- or "Server()" -- and the client displayed a dialog titled "PTS". It did not appear to be an error message, but it did not offer an option to change to that server. I cannot recall exactly what was written, but there was no keypress to cancel the action. I could not find any other way, such as using the ESC key, to return to the Main Log-In Dialog display screen.

The absence of the option to cancel the action is an obvious design flaw, an oversight. So I made a screenshot with the Print Screen function on my keyboard, but the outcome on the Windows Clipboard was displayed by Paint as a totally black screen without the dialog.

Obviously, the game client could not find the PTS files because they were not located where they are installed by default. Again, there was no way to cancel the dialog and return to the previous one. Be that as it may, there was no recourse to regain use of the computer except to call the Task Manager and kill the ESO game client process.

Have fun!!!
