Enemy health bar turns yellow

I was farming mudcrabs for chitin on my stam sorcerer (Bow and 2h) and noticed that sometimes when the health became very low the crab's health bar turned yellow. I haven't noticed this before and couldn't figure out what exactly made it happen or what it meant. Anybody know?

When health bars are displayed yellow it is an indication that the target isn't necessarily a combative subject but rather a neutral subject. Meaning, if you go up to the yellow highlighted/healthbar subject and simply hang out with them they will not attack you. On the contrary when you see Red health bar and the subject highlighted in red it means you can't go up to them and chill out. Reds will attack if you are in their vicinity and they spot you. Red are aggressive and Yellow are simply neutral unless attacked. Most crabs in the game are neutral yellow or white which pose no real threat unless provoked.

while what @RazielDERF says is true, there is a 3rd stage i have also noticed with mudcrabs and other adds.

they begin with a yellow bar, i apply a DoT (damage over time ability) to them and their healthbar changes to an off yellow state, what this means as far as my tests have shown is that my DoT will kill the mubcrab.

Thanks, guys. That's what's happening. The DOT just blanks out the last tiny bit of red health.
