An idea I had regarding Housing's lack of storage

Now we all know storage, and I quote, didn't make the cut.

Why didn't it? Well then nobody would spend money on capacity upgrades, as they can just build a million chests and make a mini-fortknox. All capacity upgrades would become absolute.

So, why not make it so housing storage is a part of the whole capacity spectrum? Where users can buy chests, with a maximum of 100 slots per house. Even if a 10 slot chest cost 100 000 gold, and a 100 slot chest costs 1000 000, at least it's achievable.

Or buy a motif, or a specific material that allows them to create chests.. I'm just thinking of all the ways they could have incorporated storage into housing without making all the other storage methods insignificant.
Dragonborn, huh? Was it your ma or your pa that was the dragon?

Right? I'm sure there were a lot of workaround and limits that could give us the authentic feel of housing but still place limits on how much additional space we can get. This update alone will bring in a ton of new crafting items and crafted items to fill up our banks and inventories.

My guess is, they just didn't want us to have any extra room, so they can really get us to sub for their bag. The other possibility is that it would have been a developmental mess, maybe causing the horrible issue of people putting their stuff in storage and losing them! If that's the case then, I can wholeheartedly understand. However, I think increasing the bank capacity a few slots is a much needed addition to the game. It would still generate some income for them, since the higher the number of upgrades, the greater the cost, and the more likely someone is to purchase bank space upgrades from the crown store.

I think it's something else entirely. They don't want to release storage with initial housing launch because it would hurt sales. All the furniture and houses can be paid for in crowns.. that means the game is getting over 2000 new items to spend crowns on in a single update. If the majority of the community just paid for bare minimum in housing to achieve storage they wouldn't make nearly as much. This way you get to preview homes, eventually cave in and get one and then realize it's actually enjoyable and decorating it is more fun than you thought and little by little those crowns are being spent, making your home unique and perfect and whatever you imagine. Zos isn't dumb and I'm not against there decision on this, but it's clear in my mind that offering storage right up front takes away from helping people to realize just how much new stuff there is to see, buy and achieve. Least that's how I have it figured.

I think it's because doing storage properly was simply going to be too much of a heavy lift to go with the initial introduction.

I think way too many people here have no flapping clue how complex housing is to begin with.

I think half the forum should stfu and try building a Quake 1 level to get a taste of world- building to the standards of 20 years ago. And then look around at eso, all the little details in the world they've built.

I'd love what "complex" Morrowind modders provided 15 years ago.

I foresee a time when muling furniture around is going to make some pretty big problems for inventory management.

With all the new sets and style materials and furniture components I can't see how people without the ESO+ membership can possibly deal with all this stuff.

Responding to the bold text, I first thought you meant to link all chests and storage items to your bank account.
This would be the best possible storage option, where you can even link a certain storage to a specific items. Example, looking in a barrel, you will only find materials and looking on a mannequin, you'll only find armor, given that they are stored in your bank.

The problem with your system, is that people get 100 extra storage slots for a house. Just get the free houses and you've got tons of new space. Buy all the 10 small houses => +1.000 inventory space. Get real.

I find it funny how players, even those who have access to a crafting bag, are complaining about not having enough bank space. You can have 8 character, just create an Orc to carry everything you don't plan to use very often. Some players just have a big hoarding problem and hoped that housing would be the "Remove weight limit" mod from Skyrim for ESO.

    Why didn't it?

Because it would undermine what is currently the major advantage subscribers have, the crafting bag.
