Greetings!

I have a good friend who would like to play ESO online and is trying to decide which if either of his pc's he should use. His desktop has an Intel 6600 CPU, 4GB RAM and a NVIDIA 8800 GTS w/ 2 GB. His laptop is an i7-7500 w/8 GB RAM and is using the onboard graphics (Intel HD 620). Granted these are on the low end, but will either run the game?

Many Thanks for any help or guidance!

    He should use the Nvidia

Onboard graphic cards aren't meant for gaming.

The game would run the best on the desktop with it's dedicated video card. Games will always run better on systems with one of those rather than on-board graphics.

If he wants a better gaming experience, they will want to upgrade the system Ram to at least 12GB and the Video Card to a more recent GPU.

There's a websute called IIRC, something like "Can You Run This" and it will check PC specs against known minimum and required specs for tons of different games.

Should give your friend and good idea.

The laptop, until he gets a new(er) video card. I believe ESO needs a video card with directx 11 support, but the NVIDIA 8800 GTS only supports directx 10. I may be wrong on that, but someone else may know.

He cannot play on the desktop because the GPU does not support DirectX 11.

As the person above says, he will need to play on his lappy until he gets a DX11 compliant GPU for the desktop, and at least 8GB RAM in there or it will suck. The cheap price of RAM now, just get 16GB at the same time as the GPU.

We double checked and he is running DX11, so I would assume that the desktop is the way to go?!?

He can run DX11 at an API level but that does not mean the card is compliant and can run the game. Check the Nvidia compatibilty list for yourself to validate.

Remember, new releases of DX are backwards compatible, but that does not mean that an old card can respond to a more modern API call. e.g.. DX12 is compatible with DX11 GPUs, but a DX12 game will fail to run as it contains a far greater variety of DX12 API calls that cannot run on the DX11 GPU.

If you want to prove things, why not install ESO on the desktop?

This is out of date, ZOS dropped legacy DX some time ago.

Aye... We are going to try one of the two options, just couldn't decide which one. Sounds like based on the direct x stuff, the safest is the laptop Time for a upgrade!
