Heavy attacks taunt and the passives are all blocking related, glad to see they added something new for tanks but I can't see it being anything but backbar.

Tell those to the heal bots.

    Now there gonna run with:

    Frost staff
    Malubeth
    Reactive
    Random set

Then spam restoring aura while being beaten on by 6+ people and basically swap between s&b back bar and frost staff to infinitely tank.

Run low on magicka? Switch to s&b, casting restoring aura, continue BoL spam profit.

Can even be useful and a eots spammer as well.
    PS4 EU DC

    Current CP : 756+

I have every character level 50, both a magicka and stamina version.

RIP my effort to get 5x v16 characters...

Shoot I'm more afraid of Sorcs/mageblades running 5x heavy set, 5x desert rose, and permablocking with an ice staff. Combine the new minor manasteal with desert rose + constitution sustain and you can probably permablock while block cast DPSing as long as you're taking hits.

    Heavy attacks taunt?
    Check the PTS patch notes.

I could see this being useful for magicka tanks. I usually use S&B on both bars for my magicka tanks, but I might consider switching 1 bar to frost staff.

Oh right ranged tremor procs cool.

But the malubeth increased healing is still stupid.

It's over rated. I use 56 sec pots to get 30% increased healing why bother hoping for 4 seconds. That and sentinel both outheals and procs more often.

Wasn't there some mention of a new class that uses frost skills? Could this be the reason for the changes?

I just don't see how this either addresses a problem or adds more to the game without creating more frustration.

There was already a magicka taunt.

Let me spell it out for you.

You equip S&B on one bar and a frost staff on the other.

When you want your bread & butter taunt that comes with a great debuff, you use the stamina skill on your S&B bar.

When you want a ranged taunt that doesn't debuff but also costs no resources (and actually replenishes resources), you use a heavy attack on your frost staff bar (and if you want a ranged taunt that doesn't have the charging time of a heavy attack you use the Undaunted one that costs magicka).

When you've got plenty of stamina you block with your S&B bar.

When you're low on stamina you block with your frost staff bar.

This is a tool that could significantly increase the effectiveness of magicka-based tanks of all classes. I don't really see any problem that it addresses, but it definitely adds more to the tank's toolbox.

I'm guessing you mean this change:

Ancient Knowledge: This passive ability no longer decreases the cast time of your Destruction Staff Heavy Attacks by 5/10%.

Frost Staves: Increases the amount of damage you Block by 10/20%, and reduces the cost of Block by 15/30%.

Is the mitigation and cost the same as s/s? The one hand and shield passives make it much stronger and more functional already.

Did they say you can regen stam now by blocking with a staff? A staff heavy attack isn't the fastest thing in the world. I just don't see the place for it. Sure, the undaunted ability costs magicka, but magicka should never be much of an issue on a tank as you can continue to regen that while blocking.

So in the end we're swapping to a staff bar for....reasons. I can see it very situational, but I don't think the situation exists that really need this. Meanwhile the number of people who will use this as a cool new toy, but not as functional as the old toy, will abound.

No, that's not the passive I'm referring to (although to answer your question it's almost as good as the S&B passives - the max block cost reduction isn't quite as good). This is the passive change (in bold):
    Tri Focus:
    • This passive ability now taunts the enemy after you use a fully-charged Frost Heavy Attack.
    • This passive ability now causes your block to drain Magicka (instead of Stamina) and stops your Magicka Recovery (instead of Stamina Recovery) while blocking when you have a Frost Destruction Staff equipped.
It lets a tank dynamically swap between which resource pool is being used for blocking, and which resource pool is regenerating. It's a game changer for tanking.

Also a game breaker for people who used an ice staff because of staggering market prices. 1.5 mill for a sharp spinner inferno. 200k for an ice staff. Can't block cancel weave( hurt regen) or heavy attack to gain resources on bosses.

That is a very good point actually: how to regain resources against bosses that drain Magicka?
