How is DPS calculated?

I can't seem to find a concise answer to this.

I've read a few threads that say vet dungeons require 20k to be good, and 30k is excellent.

How do I calculate what my stamplar DPS toon is achieving.

Thanks.

Download an addon. Literally, that's how.

    edit:
If you're on something other than PC then I don't think you can. Someone else will help you there.

Ok PC there are add-ons that can tell one their dps. Combat metrics is probably the best.

For consoles one would need to time a controlled fight. Bloodspawn in spindleclutch 2 or the Maw in BC2 with only one dps.

DPS is damage per second. From there it goes into burst, damage dealt over a short amonut of time, and sustained, damage dealt over an extended amount of it.

On PC you can download addons to parse your damage and they will tell you your exact DPS output. On console you have to settlle for knowing the amount of HP something has divided be the time in seconds it takes you to down it for a rough estimation of your DPS output.

dps is basically total damage done divided by time taken.

E.g. if you did 100k damage in 10s that would be 10k dps.

    Thanks for the quick replies.

I found an add-on called AUI by Sensi. I'll try it tonight, and report back.

Are there other add-ons for this purpose to consider?

    Thanks again.

Combat Metrics is the best addon for that stuff, providing you with a ton of information for different aspects of fights.

The part of AUI you want is the MiniMeter, which you can set to display various things. I turn off the flying numbers myself as they are both annoying and difficult to read as they lag behind the action on the screen. If I want to see exact details during combat, I use Combat Log Statistics after the fight to see what each skill is doing, then make adjustments from there.

One thing to remember about these addons, is the Combat Condition or State remains for a while after the mobs are dead, so DPS scores can be skewed downwards because of that.

Dps is best measured in a longer fight, as bursty fights against opponents differing in health will provide wonky erratic results.

Solo fight the bloodspawn or the alligator in way rest and use that dps figure for a more conclusive idea of your true dps

FTC, AUI, LUI, and Combat Metrics are all good addons for DPS.

FTC/AUI I believe are great for just seeing overall DPS, while Combat Metrics is great for seeing in-depth information on what skills did what dps, what the group dps is, percentage of uptime on buffs, etc. I love combat metrics but I use it more of a post-combat analysis rather than mid-combat quick dps check.

Combat Metrics has greatly improved my damage and survivability. I also use it post-fight to see DPS, incoming damage, heals, shields, you name it.

Just tested it. Looks like I'm pulling just under 10k, with occasional bursts to 15k using damage over time combined with other skills.

I've been at this for over a year.

If you choose to use Combat Metrics it will show you exactly what skills are pulling the best DPS and at what % of total damage they are, and you can see you buff uptime and if you can improve anything there also.

Simply ensuring the proper buffs are up at or near 100% of the time can make a huge difference in your total damage.

You can also see how well you are doing at light attack cancelling by how many light attacks you are getting in during a fight. If the fight is 60 seconds, you should be getting in at least 30 light attacks, the more the better. Light attack cancel buffs, heals, skills, everything if you can.
