How do you level grind in The Wailing Prison?

I started a joke character, trying to get them to level 50 so their 727 CP show, but it is a really slow grind. I have the mobile banker, so I crafted all Training trait armor and weapons and have XP potions. Is there a place that is better to grind than the others, or are they all about the same?

All the same. If you really, realyl want to grind in the wailing prison... you better bring a LOT of patience, because its gonna take ages...

location: Vivec's antlers; grind.

You can quite easily do this in a full days play.

get in while Breda is still serving her ever popular brew. She won't be for much longer

If you go to a good spot you can get to 50 in like 4-6 hours. You'll be at 50 by 2018 very easily

Did this a while back https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/301210/i-leveled-1-50-inside-the-wailing-prison-the-tutorial-area/p1 , took me like 14 hrs with halloween event xp buff and xp pots. best to grind the area around the stairs you first come down from. also ditch Lyris by the locked stairs before talking to cadwell so you dont have to listen to her the whole time lol. Good Luck

not sure, i deleted that character to make an AD toon to push emperor on with a friend (i got it). was a cool idea and there were some others grinding there while i did it, not sure if they ever got anything started or if you can even duel in the tutorial.If more character slots were added i would probably do it again and test

I am almost 18th level and started yesterday, so I think I will get it sooner than I thought. It scales XP now, so it seems to take the same number of kills per level. I'll have to test dueling. That would be funny.

How did you get the Halloween XP bonus down there? I am doing it without the New Life Festival XP bonus.

The Halloween bonus was activated by drinking from the witch cauldron, which was summoned to your present location thru a Memento. I.e. new characters had that available right away, even in the Prison.

The New Life Festival bonus is different in that you have to travel to Eastmarch to drink from the keg there.

That's not going to work, you need to get out the prison to drink it first

I have been doing this on and off, not really very earnestly.

I decided that leveling in the area could be annoying to new players looking for their own gear and monsters to kill. I take steps to not get in the way of the players trying to work though the area. I would hate to hear people complaining about high level players in the tutorial area getting in the way, and I definitely don't want to be one of them. That area is for them, not me, and my purpose there is only as a challenge to myself, and to assist new players when I can.

I do not loot chests, only monsters, and I try not to kill monsters there unless it is already being attacked by a Level 2-4. I stay away from other high level characters. Due to the XP reduction, I also try to stay away from battles with 3 or more characters, which I do to not rob them of XP. I do some healing when people get in trouble, which gets me my XP if I do it while they are in battle. It is actually hard to die in there, although, I have seen it done.

It definitely takes longer to level this way, but I would rather level slow than be annoying to new players by making them compete with me.

P.S. No champion points, either. No outside gear or provisions. Nothing that I do not pick up from dead daedra in the prison.

Also, I know I am not alone in doing this. Wave at me if you see me.

I have a character I'm grinding there. Every so often I load her up with low level resto staves to give away to magicka characters (they just don't drop much) and I stay mostly in the area by the bottom of the first stair, send out fireballs to summon up baddies to that area and then just heal a lot.

Works pretty well, and helps other people have a place to get some XP too.

Here she is playing "catch the flame" with a new friend.

In the background you can see her pet, Tenacity.

Cadwell's companion Honor, gave her a chick.

I'm just waiting for the inevitable thread to pop up... "I leveled 3-50 CP561 starting with 0 CP without doing any quests or killing any creature"

• Step one: have one character under 50 but already past the prison.
• Step two: make a new character and skip the prison.
• Step three: have friends that grind and let you join thier groups.
• Step four: afk stealth while they kill everything while you get exp as if you helped.
• Step five: come out of afk before the kick timer kicks you, and make sure you pick up any loot.
• Step six: Profit !!!

the halloween buff was gotten through a momento so i could activate it in there when it ran out (the momento nolonger gives a xp buff as the event is over) the new lifes festival requires you to go to east march so you cant get the xp buff unless you leave the starter area

You are just going to have to take a really long time grinding sparse mobs. Honestly no repeat player is gonna care and if there are actually new to the game players in the prison it will be lost on them since they do not have context on champion ranks or the effort involved.

Wait, you can get Viper pieces in The Wailing Prison? I got a couple here and thought it was only in Fungal Grotto.

Virtually the only place you can grind in the Wailing Prison. There are only 4 areas with enemies, the tutorial fights just before, this area, the area beyond with even sparser number of enemies, and the boss. Man, I can remember when I thought getting out of the prison at level 5 was a big deal.

I only ever grind to Lvl5, that's when I notice the xp gain takes longer and I get impatient.

As I recall, all of the zone sets (and maybe all of the dungeon sets) can drop in there. Not sure what else, though. I usually hang around for all of about 15 minutes and leave.

You know what, I'm just gonna drop my Templar character and start a new one...just so I can participate in this social experiment.
