How do I get middle tier crafting mats?

My character is Over 160 Champion points and maxed in crafting. All I can find are high tier crafting supplies. How am I supposed to get lower tier stuff?

By starting a new crafter and leaving them at middle level crafting skills. ZOS didn't think the crafting part through when they did leveling for T1.

A hot topic since ZOS changed the node scaling in OneTamriel.

There are a few ways to obtain low level mats ... none of which are ideally suitable:

    - Check the guild traders or with fellow guildies to see what low level mats are for sale.
    - Crafting writs will give a chance at lower level mats.
    - Respec your crafter (or an Alt) to the desired tier of mats that need to be gathered. Even then, nodes are still 50% chance based on character level.
    - Start a new crafting Alt character.

The best way to fix this is to revert back to pre-Thieves Guild where node scaling is based on the character's mat tier passive skill points invested. But, there was whining from some end game players that "don't have the time" to develop crafting skills. Therefore, we have the node scaling that exists today.

doing writs can provide you with a crate of various-level mats (RNG at play here as to which mats you get)

All my characters have hirelings and all but the main crafter have points that will give them mid-tier mats. Works for both the hirelings and the mats they find (and my second DK is just in her 30s now so that helps too).

Asking whoever you are crafting for to provide you the mats would be the simplest solution.

    Never mind, misread.

If your character is still under level 50 shouldn't it still be able to get node drops for their level? As I understand it, some nodes are by crafting level and some are by character level.

Yes, but it's a 50% chance based on character level per active node.
