I decided to enlist some items in my trading guild stores when I decided to check to see what the Hews bane treasure map was going for on the MM.... and I couldn't believe my eyes on what I saw.... Tell me that someone didn't spend 1 million gold for this treasure map?

Why couldn't this happen to me? :(

    :tinfoil hat:

Some people do stuff like this to launder money/inflate prices/"buy" gold.

It is how gold sellers sell. OP should investigate further by whispering seller and offer to buy gold and see his response.

Also how people game trading guild ranks - sometimes a guild will have a rank dedicated to high sellers, so you stick a trash item up for that amount and get your friend to buy it (and send them the gold back, if you're not a jerk).

Absolutely terrible advice. Like when people get caught propositioning hookers and say they were just trying to find out so they could report it.

I doubt gold sellers request customers go through a guild store. This looks like gaming the system to me. Someone wants to make sure their guild recognizes them as a top seller or something pointless like that.

It is listed like that to manipulate MM and TTC data.

It's not unheard of. The idea is basically money laundering.

Though it could also just be something as mundane as someone transferring money to another account they have for whatever reason.

That would be a very stupid way to transfer money to a second account considering you can just mail the gold without having to pay the extremely high posting fee for a 1,000,000 gold item. You would lose around 150,000 gold that way.

May be just for kicks, like the 1-million gold potato last year.

Its far more likely there as overflow storage. They know no-one will buy it at that price, and they use their guild store listings as a kind of storage by listing stuff at a price no-one will touch.

Expensive way of freeing up space, the listing price would be insane.

You guys in pc have apps that show you the average selling price for something right? It's probably to manipulate those figures.

Wow, you just saved my hide. I've been propositioning hookers for years now under the assumption I'd be able to use that excuse.

    Good lookin out.
