Exploring the unexplored, Venturing beyond the map ...

I have been exploring the normally inaccessible parts of the ESO maps since the early beta days.
While a lot of those early holes in the world mesh have since been fixed by ZOS, there are still some spots left where one can leave the confines of the world map and venture out into the unknown.

This usually involves some creative jumping, either on horse or on foot, swimming through Slaughterfish infested waters and sometimes even requires the Sorcerer skill "Bolt Escape".

I am *not* going to show the exact spots and mechanisms for each map on where and how to exit the world.
However, i will point you in the general direction and show you the locations one can still get to. If you want to follow in my footsteps, you will have to figure out the details for yourself.

As i said, many of the holes have been fixed so i will not rely on old data and screenshots but instead go through my archives and see which holes can still be exploited today.

I'll start with my most recent exploration, the island of "Eyevea" and i'll be adding maps to the list below as i go along ...

List of maps that still have one or more ways to leave the map:

- Vvardenfell (09/2018)
- Eyevea (12/2016)
- Cyrodiil (12/2016)

    Eyevea

    Exit points:

    - Towards the north shore
Can't really go anywhere from there besides walking along the shore

    - In the upper right (east) corner
There is a group of smaller islands and a bigger one to the north east, all of which can be reached once you get across the water

    - In the south near the "Shalidor's Curse" crafting station
There is a whole island chain in the south. Once you manage to reach the first island, you can do some island hopping to almost all of them, including the large island to the far south.

    Cyrodiil

    Exit points:

    - All my previously known exists seem to have been patched, however, i found a new one not known to me until today! (See below)

    - South East corner across from the "Nibenay Valley Dolmen"
There is actually a fully modeled small island out there complete with a tower, trees, tents, cooking fire, landing dock and a skeleton sitting next to a table with a Cyrodiil map on it.
I'm not sure if this is a leftover from making the map or maybe part of some future content or something completely different.
Either way, getting there involves a lot of creative jumping and swimming and most importantly, not dying to Slaughterfish.

    - I made it from the small island to the "mainland" to the east. I rode straight south and then to the SE corner and from there up north.
I hit a sheer cliff about half way up north that could not be scaled. I rod along the cliff west until i got close to the main map at which point the "You are out of the map and will die!" mechanic kicked in and i got an insta loading screen and port to my home-base.
It does not appear that there is a way further up north from here but there was one more valley that may give me access. I'll try that later.

    - Managed to find a way around the southern tip of the map and into the west side.
There are several spots in the west that have LARGE writing on the ground, spellinh "Low Medium High" and "High Ground".

    - Also found an error in the water mesh that allows you to walk under water around Topal Bay!

The final image you posted is strange. The map that is shown is not the same map of cyrodiil in Elder Scrolls Online, but that is instead of the player map for Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. I wonder why the devlopers used that map instead, maybe you just found an easter egg refering to Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.

Yes, i noticed that too. I thought it was a nice touch.

Was there a small island with a tower in that location in Oblivion?

My impression is that early development of ESO involved a lot of repurposed assets from Oblivion and Skryim. It wouldn't surprise me if some of that can still be found in out of bounds areas.

    Kudos!

Oddly enough I was over there yesterday, too, but because I wanted to sneak into the fully enclosed city further south again, but when helping friends get skyshards in the WW town, following my unclear instructions, she ended up in slaughterfish water and we ended up doing something else.

I got up out by the DC north gate but got stuck on invisible walls, too. Most everything is closed up. In Cyrodiil that's actually important due to past exploits. Makes me want to go have a picnic in Hackdirt.

I so badly wish I still had my screenshots of old, but it's nice to see that tower again. Why don't I have an argonian sorc!? I already have all 12 slots filled with max level characters.

Keep at it! I love this.

They patched the old Rift out-of-bounds glitch, but there's still another way to get out. I might make a video of how to do it.

Also, many dungeons can be easily glitched out of if any NPC has wrecking blow. Direfrost is a good example of this.

Looking through Tamriel maps online some do show a smaller island in that location and a bigger island further south while others show only the big island in Topal Bay.

"Deepscorn Hollow" is a delve in Oblivion that is located on a small island that is somewhat in the correct location.

PS: Ok, now i really want to fire up Oblivion and have a look

Not in the location where the thread author glitched out of. There is no island in that area, at least from what I can remember. To me it just looks like he's right across the river where you can't really go to on ESO.

    @l3alls
Nope, wasn't me. ZOS added a "You will die instantly and respawn at your home base" barrier a while ago around all the faction bases to prevent exactly that.

However, there is a way to move through those barriers without actually dying ...

Isn't Stirk only accessible when you are on the quest that takes you there?

Is there a normal way to get there after you already went through the quest?

    I assume you mean "naked"?

Simple: To avoid having to pay for armor repair.

Because trying to get to these places means that you will die a lot. Especially if it involves water and slaughterfish.

ZOS is getting better with blocking access, they're now using invisible barriers in addition to the Slaughterfish.

Just so you're aware if you get caught doing this you can be banned. People have been banned off-mapping/wall breaching before.

There was a group one time who figured out how to do this near a Dolmen and exploit by fighting from off-map... needless to say they aren't playing these days.

iirc telling other people how to break the ToS, even if only "in the general direction" is also grounds to get in trouble. You personally exploring probably won't get you caught... teaching people who may have malicious intent how to do this though...

Also, I don’t know if this is true for ESO as well, but I do know that some people who went off the map in LOTRO quite literally lost characters due to data corruption or getting stuck in falling animations. They couldn’t be recovered.

    @lagrue
Been doing it since beta, i have literally reported hundreds of locations where one can get out of the map.
Even had some of the devs contact me requesting more info.

I'm pretty sure if they wanted to ban me they would have done so by now ...
