Let me start out with saying I am a khajiit stamina night blade that runs 5 piece hundings rage and 5 piece vicecannon and 1 piece molag kena, all impenetrable. So I'm not some proc set n00by who dosnt know what he talking about.
So, let me say this, balance in this game is always going to be a challenge. But were do we really want things to be balanced? And what is this balance we so desperately seek? And why are nerfs (at least with the games state right now) so important?
Well first, we have to realize that we don't actually want balance. I'm sorry, but if you don't have your shields up and your in your inventory and me and another nightblade gank you, your dead. Is that balanced?
no.
Why? Because even though that's what nightblades are, you have no chance to defend yourself.
But if this game was "balanced", to some, you should be able to escape and possibly kill one or both of the nightblades. Or even possibly do the same to them (sneak up on then while their unsuspecting and gank them)
Why is that balance? Because then, both classes can do the exact same thing, and it evens out the playing field.
But what if the person spots the nightblades before they get the first shot? Well now he has the ability to either run, or try to defend himself.
So, what I'm trying to say, is that certain aspects of this game are always going to be extremely one sided, and that's not a bad thing. I like being a jerk and ganking people, its what I've always done and always will do.
But you know what isn't balanced at all? When I try and gank someone, it does almost no damage, and then they just one shot me.
Why isn't that balanced?
Because the advantage is on my side, and yet I lose. And this has nothing to do with skill.
What if you're a sorc though? And you have your shields up and your mines down. Should I be able to gank you? I'm not going to answer that.
So where do nerfs come in? They come in once the nightblade can't do what his classes main ability is, and that's being sneaky and messing someone's day up and simply leaving the situation if the tables turn on him. Whether you like that or not, thats what nightblades are. And in cyrodil right now, that's just plain impossible.
I can't gank without another person, and even when I get the first shot and hit all the necessary combos to kill someone, they just don't die. And on top of that, they put out much more damage then me (because I don't have as much defense). So I just try and leave the situation (and left the game also). And I'm not going to resort to cheese builds, sorry.
But where do nerfs come in? Well, they come in once a play style is ruined by a cheese build play style that takes almost no skill and is basically used by everyone and no play style diversity is left.
So in the end, if I were to use the cheese build, I would be balanced. My build would actually be good, but that absolutely ruins class and build diversity. And that's what people dread so much about what's going on now.
Its not that everything is so unbalanced and some classes are good against other and some are not, its about one meta build (black rose viper) that just plain dominates the game and any other build is deemed useless. And we need to nerf that.
some classes/builds need to have the ability to be at a advantage and a disadvantage.
So guess what? imbalance is what we actually need.
Look, I know, if I (or any other build) duels a sorc with his shields up and mines down, there is a good chance I'm going to loose. And if that same sorc is spotted in cyrodiil, I doubt he's going to have mines on his bar and I will have a much better chance of killing him.
So in the end, unbalance balances out unbalance so that balance can be in the game.
nerfs are always good, because the proc set heavy armor metas are just annoying.. They don't have a disadvantage, and that's why they need to be nerfed..
