Sword dancer vs. viper sting

Powerburrito20
So, I thought about trying a set of either Sword Dancer from blessed crucible or viper sting from fungal. Which do you all think would produce higher dps on a pve stam sorc.?

Lol. Doesn't viper dominate any other choices?

Well, i dunno, +400 weap dam. on duel wield do more dps when viper only procs every 4 secs? I have no idea, that's why I'm asking.

It's going to depend on your bar and play style.

Sword Dancer would provide some really nice dps on an attack bar w 3+ dual wield abilities. I'd personally want to pair it w/ Hundings Rage and the 300 weapon damage buff there. If I was choosing one or the other I'd choose Hundings because I'd rather have 300 weapon damage on everything instead of 400 on just dual wield...very specialized sets tend to be lower dps overall.

Vipers is a great dps set. The advantage over sword dancer is that you get the buff for more attacks. If you're using a 2h retreat bar now your execute or wrecking blow gets a buff. But if you use a lot of range attacks...like hidden blade...vipers becomes less useful.

I like ranges attacks. For me, I'd get more dps w sword dancer. I'd do Hundings + sword dance + monster helm and equip my attack bar w shrouded dagger, bloodthirst, deadly cloak and Flawless dawnbreaker. Back bar probably 2h, although the setup tempts me to try a double dual bar. If I gave up my 2h and rally, I'd maybe swap out my hundings for briar hearts for the sustain...but I'm a stamblade so I have good crit.

I was thinking 5x night mothers, 2x Kra'gh monster set, and either 5x viper or 5x sword dancer. Race is a cat, and I'm using DW with bow on back bar. I know I would lose the 5 piece on bow bar, but i spend most of my time on DW bar.

I would use automaton over sword dancer for sure since it will boost your dawnbreaker, hurricane, and rearming trap.

@Kutsuu, never thought of that. wouldnt that also boost DW and bow? not sure what they consider "physical damage"

It means literally exactly what they say. Physical damage. That means poison injection, lethal arrow, and acid spray do not count, they are Poison damage. Heavy attacks are Physical damage. Dawnbreaker is physical damage. Rearming trap is physical damage. Abilities tend to say in the description which damage type they are. "Does X physical damage" etc.

Also if this is for PVE, then NMG, Spriggan, and TBS will almost always outpace the other options like Automaton. Very typical setup is 5x NMG + 5x VO + 2x Velidreth or Kra'gh. For solo content like VMA, 5x Spriggan + 5x VO + 2x Velidreth is very very good. 5x TBS + 5x VO + 2x Velidreth/Kra'gh/Stormfist should be extremely solid trials DPS.

If you don't have VO... definitely focus on getting it (even blue jewelry from normal trials is good). Viper makes a decent replacement for VO.

@Kutsuu with you reminding me of automation, I was thinking 5x nmg, 5x automation and 2x kra'gh until vo. Thoughts on 5x viper sting in place of automation? and it is all for pve.

Hmm honestly I'd probably go Leviathan or Red Mountain for PVE DPS for your second set until you can get VO. Viper is really nice in VMA but falls short against longer fights.
