ok I farm mats on my main toon, she has all the crafting skill lines to 50 with points in all the skills. now I was told if I wanted to keep getting the CP160 crafting mats I need to keep the 10 points in the main metal working, tailoring, and woodworking skill lines, and so far so good nothing but 160CP mats great awesome, BUT!!! on another toon who has NO skill points in the crafting trees and none leveled up and she gets CP160 crafting mats all the time, why is this?

so since my main is level 50 CP 531 I don't need the points in the skill lines to get the 160crafting mats?

The mats drop 50/50 from your crafting skill and level.

Have a character cp160+ character with no crafting skills, and you'll find iron ore, jute and maple, AND all the ruby level mats.

Have a character witsh some skill points in crafting, and cp160+, and you'll find whatever the appropriate mats are, and ruby level mats.

Maxed skills and max level and you'll find nothing but the ruby level mats.

this! ever since 1T it has worked this way. So no, you do not need any points into crafting to get top end mats.....but it will not be every single node like it is on your crafter, only about half of them

    You didn't listen.

It's not only about crafting skill, it's also your character level.

... also your character level ...

When a node spawns for you, roll the dice. The dice come up one way, it is based on your crafting skill level. The dice go the other way, it is based on your character level.

You got a max level character with no crafting skills, sometimes it will be based on your max character level and give you the ruby stuff. Because max level.

also, unless you have the "Keen eye" perk the Ruby stuff is just easier to see (RED) so you will probably notice it more often while overlooking the iron ore (brown) that blends into the background

They need to change the Keen eye passive anyway, that yellow glow is damn near invisible during the daytime.

As stated above 50/50 between character level and crafting level. Really wish we had some sort of toggle ,@STEVIL , to gather whatever mats we may want.

I could agree with that @Stopnaggin but i would rather see simplification and clean-up.

1 - Remove the lower cap on mats - so you can use the mats you gather to craft their current cap level or lower, period.
2 - let you choose the appearance (material) from whatever mat you use or any lower mat, so the cosmetic appearance is more flexible - so you can use voidstone and get weapons that cosmetically look like voidstone or steel or orichalcum is you want - use ancestral silk and make it look like ebonthread style or cotton.

That way you just would not need to maintain ten tiers of each craft material in your inventories.

Net result is the same as your idea - you can at top tier gather mats for any level or look you want - but with a little more freedom of appearance (look unbound from level) and much less accounting bookkeeping.

I'd like to see other mats be used for 160 gear. That red doesn't dye well at all.
