Synergies are difficult to activate on console, but there IS a solution!

Right now, synergies are far more difficult to activate than they should be on console. This is due to button layout in performance-intensive fights.

The button layout (PS4: Triangle+Circle, Xbox: Y+B) is equivalent to a PC player pressing 2+3 to activate synergies.

When fighting in vet trials, many times I will have a Mystic Orb fly by me but not react even though I'm smashing Synergy to activate it. I also notice the option to activate Synergy disappear quickly sometimes and then pop up a bit later for about 0.5sec.

They just seem to be acting strange in performance-intensive situations (PS4), and I notice that Mystic Orbs often go un-Synergized in tough fights even when players are trying to activate them.

A big reason for this is because:
1) Pressing Triangle+Circle (Active skill slots 2+3) can mess up a rotation and make you cast unwanted skills
2) Don't allow activation long enough, or further exasperate problem #1 by refusing to activate at all

My proposition is simple:
Replace the useless Quest Toggle button that switches between quests for the *important* Synergy button!

Just like that our problem is almost completely solved. We would have a separate button to activate synergies that could reliably do its job and not mess you up in low FPS/slow performance situations like Vet trials :)

That is all. Thank you!

.....or allow us to assign our own buttons. That'd probably work too

U can do that alrdy do that on xb1 s n ps4 by using the button mapping options in the console settings, not the in game settings.

On my G600 mouse, my thumb easily does that. But I've actually got synergy mapped to 7, its quicker to hit than X. I think consoles need to get on the ball when it comes to controllers and customization. Even the NES had more options.

That's the Xbox1 *S*... Just came out a few weeks ago. Not the xbox1 that's been out for years.

And the Xbox elite controller also cannot map the YB combo onto a single button, even though it has 4 more buttons.

I support this on so many levels it's ridiculous. Everything described above happens to me constantly. I also bought the elite controller hoping to assign synergize to one button to no avail.

I'm a ps4 healer and it's a pain! I always have to throw synergies in odd angles or places to try to help the dps activate them.

This is why the Xbox Elite controller is useful, You have paddles on the back and can map any buttons you want to them. This is amazing when it comes to bar swap

I think you're PS4 though, not sure if they have their own variant

I'm also referring to the Xbox1 elite controller. You can map each synergy button to 2 paddles, but you're still having to push 2 buttons to activate the synergy. Rather than just 1 on PC.

I agree something must be done but your "solution" was horrible. The quick quest swap button is very useful to me and I use it all the time. I don't want it to go away. The left arrow button doesn't do anything at the moment so it could be used for this instead.

Just here to agree that this is annoying and the solution suggested by OP would be an improvement on QOL for console players.
And if they could also make the synergies easier to target, therefore making it easier to activate, that would be great.

You mean left on the D-pad? That's Bar Swapping.

Have you seen the cost of these? Admittedly I got mine via other means...buy an elite controller and do the old switcheroo with a regular one saying it was an unwanted gift. Game store workers are too high these days to pay attention and check. Works everytime your crappy headset breaks every 2 weeks too.

With my personal settings, the Quest Toggle button is activated by clicking right on the D-pad. Having synergy here would be extraordinarily helpful and solve many issues with synergies.

The Quest Toggle option can already be used by going into your Journal! I've never once used it and I've completed most quests in Tamriel :/

Anyway it seems most of us agree to this. I know every single person I run high-end content with does, and also get quite angry when they realize how simple and perfect this exact solution would be.

Pls no I constantly go into first person to get a better look at things. It would be incredibly annoying if I had to go into my settings switch to first person take a look at and then go back into my setting to switch to 3rd

I also switch regularly. I spend most of my time in 1st person mode, but then switch to 3rd person if there are more then 2 or 3 enemies (or a major enemy with big red areas). Sometimes I switch to 3rd person just to look at my character a bit. Especially when emoting.

I have never used the quest switchy thing. Except by accident when meaning to access the emote wheel (by the way, i want more slots on that wheel - i have more than 8 emotions!)

When do you ever need to switch quests in such a hurry? Do it in the journal and then you can actually look for the quest you want. If you have a full quest log, might even be faster!

I agree with the OPs suggestion.

(I agree even more with allowing button mapping! Although at this point I am used to the controls...)

Actually both the Xbox one and Xbox one s allow the changes of button assignments. They lack button customization tho. With either console and the elite controller there are more options but neither allow two buttons to become one

    Regarding the OP....
I use the quest swap a lot so I don't feel this is a viable suggestion. I do believe that if the console allows changes similar to Apache, that's the best approach.

As such...the PC UI needs to be on console asap with the settings menus.

Console games need to allow full customization and remapping of all buttons from the in game options. I still don't understand why this isn't a thing. Changing it from the console interface is just a workaround in my opinion. Even PC isn't quite there yet. I have to use a third party program to remap my mouse movement to my controller for PC. Full button remapping is something we should have had 20 years ago and we put up with it to this day.

You can do custom buttons from the PlayStation settings menu. I use the R3 (right thumb click) for bar swap, Left D-Pad crouch. Synergy using 2 buttons is a problem currently. Can't map 2 buttons to 1. I like the idea of Mapping Synergy to the Right D-Pad.
