Who are the most powerful Mage's in Elder Scrolls and would fit in ESO timeline? The abilities they bring to the table.

Best of the Best by the theology of origin where they fit in the lore like Sotha Sil work well in Clockwork City. But Sotha Sil exists in the first Era I'm not sure he will exists in the mid Era. And Mannimarco will we see him again in a more evil powerful mindset.

This is my list of the powerful Mage's
  • Sotha Sil
  • Mannimarco
  • Divyath Fir
  • Orgnum
  • Iachesis
  • Shaledor
  • Arctus
  • Paarthunax
  • Alduin
  • Neloth
  • Zurin Arctus
  • Tosh Raka
  • Dracochrysalis
  • Wolf Queen
  • Miraak
  • Harkon

Mages got nerfed wait 6 seconds.... poof no longer powerful. They curse you ... poof cleansed. They encase you..... errr I was using immovable pots. Here comes a frag.... block javelin topple sweep dead. Pooorrrrr mage. Nerfed by ZOS.... kids if you want to be a mage pick up a bow, two handed sword or and axe and a dagger and get your hurricane on.
Sorcerna, proud beta sorc. RIP April 2014 to May 31 2016 DArk Brotherhood. Out of retirement for negates and encases. Sorcerna will be going back into retirement to be my main crafter Fall 2018. Because an 8 k shield is f ing useless. Died because of baddies on the forum. Too much qq too little pew pew. 16 AD 2 DC. 0 EP cause they bad, CP 2300 plus 18 level 50 toons. NA, PC, Grey Host#SORCLIVESMATTER actually they don’t or they wouldn’t keep getting nerfed constantly.

Well since my character has committed mass heroism (genocide) in the name of saving the realm (gaining XP) I'll vote for Yugot The Beam.

Don't think this is what OP is about, but bad mag sorcs are bad with nerfs or not.

Hmm... honestly I never considered Alduin and Paarthunax as mages? Maybe I can stretch it to include Alduin (he can raise the dead), but then why not include Durnehviir? If I remember right, wasnt he the most involved in magic of these 3 anyway?
And yes, agree that mages arent always villians...unless youre a stam build in pvp I guess?

    • Sotha Sil is alive and active, and his Clockwork City is part of an upcoming DLC. However, as one of the leaders of the Dunmeri people, he will not be a villain.
    • Mannimarco is unlikely to appear again in this game, as his status depends on whether or not the Vestige released him from Molag Bal's torture.
    • Divayth Fyr is not a bad guy, and is still alive during Morrowind.
    • Orgnum would make a good villain, but he'd inevitably survive, as he's still alive in the Third Era.
    • Iachesis is unlikely to be a bad guy, and cannot die at this point in time.
    • Shalidor has been dead for a long time at this point. His spirit returns during the Mages Guild questline, but only because he had unfinished business with Sheogorath.
    • Zurin Arctus might be alive at this point, but there is no mention of him prior to Tiber Septim's campaign. He cannot die until the events of Daggerfall, where he (in the form of the Underking) finally is released from his state of undeath.
    • Paarthurnax is meditating atop the Throat of the World. He cannot die until the events of Skyrim. As a dragon his magic is innate, not learned, so I wouldn't consider him a mage.
    • Alduin is "currently" stuck in the Time Wound. He does not reemerge until the events of Skyrim. As a dragon and a god his magic is innate, not learned, so I wouldn't consider him a mage.
    • Neloth is unaccounted for at this time, and may not even have been born. He's not really a bad guy, however, and cannot be killed as he appears in both Morrowind and Skyrim.
    • Tosh Raka is chilling in Akavir. He is very unlikely to appear.
    • Dracochrysalis isn't a person, but rather a means for mortals to attain godhood.
    • Potema Septim the Wolf-Queen hasn't been born yet.
    • Miraak is stuck in Apocrypha until the events of Skyrim.
    • Harkon is unaccounted for, but is implied to be doing nothing but hanging around with the other Volkihars until the events of Skyrim.

Of the people currently alive and active in Tamriel during the events of ESO, I'd say Sotha Sil, Mannimarco, Vanus Galerion, Orgnum, and Iachesis are the most powerful mages we've been introduced to. Potema, Harkon, and Neloth are small fry in comparison. Almalexia and Vivec are also monstrously powerful, but while they do use magic your mileage may vary on whether they could be considered mages.

    @thawks

That's some top notch lore knowledge right there and I kind of think you didn't even need Google. Well played.

Thank you, I wrote it from memory. The only thing I'm not certain of is Iachesis' date of death, but IIRC he personally met Potema Septim, so 3E11X at the very earliest.
