Best Gear for MagSorc tanking?

I'm working on a MagSorc tank- and I'm trying to figure out what the best gear setup would be. So far, I've come up with Mother's Sorrow (jewelry, sword, shield) and Twice Born Star (heavy- divines on small gear, infused on large gear) with my Mundus as the Thief and the Apprentice. Is there other gear setups? I was looking at Shalk- because it gives you spell crit in the bonuses and it automatically gives you minor heroism.

Any suggestions?

I have no idea but shalk is a bad set, you need to run heroic slash anyways for the minor maim in bosses, that is 15% less damage from that skill.

Okay. Well, anyone else have any suggestions for mSorc Tank gear?

Mother's Sorrow would be useless on a tank imo. You wont benefit from this crit rate at all, as a tank you need survivability+sustain and team support (sets and good positioning).
I'd pick any sustain set so youll have infinite stamina from dark deal (for example, Seducer, you can craft it in heavy), and something for team support (for example, Ebon), and a monster set.

I must've been tanking wrong so far. I've been using high crit to sustain my health (via Crit Surge) and only blocking during heavy attacks. My stamina hasn't been an issue in dungeons. Heck, I haven't even been using my shields.

Okay, so you are surviving, what kind of support are you providing your team?

I daresay you have been tanking wrong so far. As a tank, you should focus on group utility in addition to taunting and tanking priority targets. You gotta buff your group and debuff the enemies.

While I don't really have any experience with magsorc tanking, I can suggest armor sets that you can use. Good thing about some tanking sets is that they don't care if you're stam or mag.

For group utility, I will highly suggest Tava's Favor and Blood Spawn for the ulti-gen, so you can spam Aggressive Warhorn, buffing your team's damage. Always pair that with Shuffle.

As long as you have 30k health and block the heavy attacks, you'll be completely fine in the survival department; it's the healer's job to keep you alive anyway. To counteract your lack of stamina, you should heavy attack more, and use more of your magicka abilities to assist your team. Keep a burst self heal on you for emergencies, and stack shields if you can.

Always use Pierce Armor and Heroic Slash; they provide valuable enemy debuffs. Unstoppable (morph of Immovable in Heavy Armor) or Boundless Storm (morph of Lightning Form in Storm Calling) provides you with a nice resistance buff that you should keep up if you are having trouble tanking hits.

I never tanked on a sorc, but I tanked all content on dk and most of it on a nightblade. :p So I cant really tell about stamina sustain on them, but in any case, more magicka sustain means more flexibility... There's a ton of useful skills.

Okay, so you are surviving, what kind of support are you providing your team?

It wasnt a question for me, but...
Buffs and debuffs. As a tank, you can improve your team's performance drastically.
For example, the set I mentioned (Ebon) buffs your teammates' hp by 1k... Which is nice for those squishy dds. Or, alternatively, you can wear 5 pieces of Dragon's set which reduces ultimate costs and provide more warhorns (which means more survivability and dps). I havent mentioned another BiS option (Alkosh) since its stamina-based. Also with high magicka regen you can also spam mystic orbs for your dds if your healer doesnt have them.
Also potitioning is very important and is often overlooked by average tanks. Stacking trash pulls together, positioning bosses, all these things can make dds job much easier. Since you dont have chains and many big mobs are unchaianble anyway, you can trick them with line of sight, or, for example, taunt all and run away a bit so they will follow you and stack with the rest of the pack... This is situational, of course.

Hold on... is the Tava's Favor/Bloodspawn with Aggressive Warhorn build considered the BiS for every tank build these days? Has tanking, no matter what class you're playing, become that pigeonholed into a certain gear setup?

What's the BiS armor for Nightblade tanks and Templar tanks? Please tell me it's not Tava/Bloodspawn/Alkosh...

I haven't personally tried this but I have had a mag sorc tank wear Spectre's Eyes before and he was quite good. Perhaps worth a try:

Well, it's the best setup to provide warhorns and debuff the enemy. Nothing comes really close to the support you give with BS/Tava/Alkosh.

Damn. That's sad, really. This game has slowly become more and more of a DPS race to where, no matter what race, class, or attribute alignment (stamina or magicka)- as a tank, you're expected to just wear Tava/Bloodspawn/Alkosh or Ebon. No build diversity- no room for different mechanics. Slot a few class skills and make sure you have Shuffle and Warhorn slotted.

If you made a poll to ask what the BiS gear is for a DD- you'd get tons of different answers. All depending on your class, attribute alignment, and the weapons that the DD would use. But all tanks are pigeonholed to a BiS of one gear setup for pumping out Aggressive Warhorn. Kinda ruins the fun of having options in an MMO.

I main a hybrid sorc tank and every time I ask about gear I get the same reply: Tava's/BloodSpawn/Ebon... I don't even bother anymore.

For trial work I use Ebon (I don't like it but it's my one concession to the 'meta is god' crowd) and Imperium which works well. For solo or 4 man groups I mostly use Defending Warrior and Nobles Conquest. DW has a nice damage/self heal aoe which couples well with the Nobles interrupt.

    Skill wise:
Front bar: encase, heroic slash, boundless storm, bound armaments, pierce armor
Back bar: hardened ward, absorb magic, shuffle, bound armaments, inner fire

For the rare dungeon boss I'll swap out encase and ward for my clannfear just for that extra 'oh crap' health boost or help tanking (works well for vWGT hard mode.)

Thanks for the reply, bud. Yeah- I'm getting bummed on hearing the Tava/BS/Ebon/Alkosh gear for every single tank build. You can add buffs/debuffs, maintain aggro, and have survivability with other gear slotted as well.
