If you're doing other things, (i.e. farming in craglorn for raw materials + nirncrux + dust) it'll probably be a bit less painful.
Dude, I have been farming like there is no tomorrow since this dropped on the PC 2 to 3 weeks ago. I have spent hours running a dolmen pattern in one zone, hours running public dungeons, leveled a character to L40 in little over a day with nothing but chasing skyshards and doing public dungeons (almost no questing). I have complete dropped sets in Divines and Infused and Impenetrable. I have done me some mob farming.
Not to mention hoovering up every crafting node I can find, its going to take me hours to refine everything.
Not. One. Aether. Of. Any. Kind.
Your not going to get it today, or tomorrow, or anytime this week. You can forget about next week too. Have I discouraged you enough yet? I can go on if you want.
Now, that I have pummeled your expectations deep into the ground, covered them in concrete, built a skyscraper on top of that, imploded the skyscraper, them built a memorial to Hopes and Dreams on the Rubble of the skyscraper, you now have some realistic expectations about getting this stuff.
Oh, BTW, do you have an unlearned Ambrosia Recipe? Your going to need that too to make the recipe once you find the cipher. And do you have some Perfect Roe? Your going to need that to make the Ambrosia to make into Aetheric Drink once your all done.
Happy Farming.
Ehh. Farming for the cypher is like farming for imperial motif. Not going to happen.
Best bet is just to do business as usual and hope you are one of the very lucky ones that is blessed with a cypher.
I've been mindful to moderate my grinding to increase my odds. My favorite place to grind out CP was in the sewers. Since it's not a cypher granting area, I've started to locate half a dozen open world grinding spots I like. Challenge is to find a place that isn't occupied since One Tamriel.
Next, I just make a trend of killing monsters as I do things like head to crafting stations or farming nodes in the open world.
Most people who have actively tried to farm it have reported hours and hours without getting a drop. If you're doing other things, (i.e. farming in craglorn for raw materials + nirncrux + dust) it'll probably be a bit less painful.
I've come to the realization that I'll never find one, nor would I ever pay for one either...

They're a very good way to make a ton of gold if you see someone selling one in chat for lower than norm. I've bought lots of them for between 800k-1.1m. Then flip them in a guild store for 2.3m. After listing fees, around 1m profit straight off the bat.

Yonks ago I found the Imperial motif, but I was an Imperial, so I sent it to a friend, and the ungrateful git sent it back, so I just destroyed it. I had no idea it was THAT rare! Dayum!!! If I remember correctly I found it in the Daggerfall castle.
