Style Change - Give us a reason to use the new motifs

After all these new dropped sets from One Tamriel, motifs are becoming more and more useless if we can't use them to change the style of our current gear. People with complete gold sets will never spend money to re-craft everything just to have a different style. There is no incentive for that. We need to be able to change the style of our gear, any crafted or dropped sets. This should be top priority for Zenimax. I know changing styles is already technically possible in the engine since we can do that with Imperial style. There is still time to include Style change with Housing, do it! Releasing thousand motifs everyday is useless if my build is solely made of dropped sets. Please @ZOS_GinaBruno, @ZOS_EveP, @ZOS_JasonI, @ZOS_JessicaFolsom , @ZOS_GaryA, @ZOS_TristanK, let our voices be heard. =D

    just a sec....

You can't just enable the stuff without reason as that devalues crafting all together

There has to be a system for all of this.
Not saying a new system but adjustments to the current system.

Id argue that for crafter,s the crafting and research should apply but then what or how does it align for non-crafters?

Do you say ..... some other way

I think the obvious issue is that crafting binds but doesnt allow interactions to upgrade or change, and enchant in the trade windows due to poor binding systems.

    Thoughts....

    The topic keeps popping up...

Yeah, many here want some sort of transmogrification system, maybe as a perk for master crafters, to allow style-change recrafting. Not like the "transform to inperial" feature, but as a pip on the crafting stations, just like temper improvements... and just like those, it might use style material and perhaps also resources, and have a destruction chance that can be migrated by using more resources...

It really would make motivs more valued and valuable, and give our crafters life more joy.

If someone ran a content analysis, this might be single most desired topic in all of the eso forum community. It's been a long-standing request, and the fact that it has not been prioritized only emphasizes the divide between the community and the devs.

Honestly, I want this more than vanity housing (w/o storage). I want this more than spell crafting, jewelry crafting, and new armor sets or monster sets.

Along with an actual functioning preview feature, this is a much needed addition. Sorry ZOS if it doesn't bring you loads and loads of money. However, it's become a wasted effort on the part of your motif designers to have people go to great lengths to change the style of their gear.

This will happen, eventually. Even if they say they have no plans for it.

It will be a crown store item. So if you want Frostcaster for instance, you will need to know the motif yourself, you will need a mimic stone or the style mat which originally came from the mimic stone, and you will need the transmutation item which will be sold on a 1 at a time basis.

They time is needed because this would be too upsetting right now. They need to gradually bring up the heat so we don't all jump out of the pot.

Exactly, this should be top priority. A preview system is a must have, we can already preview some motifs from the crown store, why not from the crafting table?

Style change would actually bring them a lot more money IMO. Why should I buy new motifs if I will never be able to use them on my dropped sets? Bringing a style change system would definitely make me buy it more.

Agreed. I've been playing the motif mini-game because I'm a crafter and something of a completionist. However, I know many styles I have not and will not craft so long as it requires crafting a new set while temper prices continue to climb. Having said that, I would try different styles if there were an option beyond what I just stated.

And yes, preview system for crafting is long overdue. We can preview in crown store, we can preview in dye station. It's absurd we cannot preview what we craft.

While I do think style changes are coming down the pike, probably in 2017, you're sadly mistaken if you think there's time to include it with housing. This isn't a trivial addition like the change to Imperial style. This will need a UI for selecting the target style at minimum (a menu could conceivably be too big for the screen...) and odds are good there may be integration into the Trade window to deal with items bound to other players. As others mentioned above, this may also be tied to the ability to improve items bound to other players as well.

Generally speaking, significant new features like this generally need to be in the pipeline many months before they appear in game. So you can pretty much expect the housing update to have just the announced features and not any more.

It's possible it might be in the update after that. I've heard rumors that next update was going to include updates for crafting sets, and it would make sense that style changes would be included in that.

I don't think anyone is really implying that it is easy enough to implement by homestead. Maybe I'm misunderstanding.

I think what people mean is that it's not as impossible as the devs made it out to seem in the AMA when they said that the reason they had no plans of working on transmog or restyle was because it would take too many hours of dev time.

That said, I'm relieved that your intuition is that we might see it on the update after homestead. That would make me a really happy camper!

Honestly, I feel like right now, we're never going to get it. :( Maybe I'm pessimistic, but I've seen devs only make the following changes a. things we never would have even anticipated or asked for (like overhaul of the game in 1t, adding a useless and redundant poison system, and bringing in an absurd amount of new armors and monster sets) or b. things that are purely monetized (like player housing, costume dying, crown exclusive motifs, and crown crates).

Edit: just reread OP, who said there's still time before housing. Unfortunately, I've learned that not much can change last minute before an update, but in the context of storage for housing. So not likely for housing.

    I agree 10000000000000000000000%.

Motifs are COMPLETELY useless if you don't craft, mostly when BiS gear is dropped gear.

And if you still crafted your gear and it's legendary, who will spend ("waste" fits better) money only to change the style? No one.

Completely agree. Crafted sets are becoming increasingly obsolete in general with all of the new dropped sets that are out there now. At least give us some way to customize our style (I would even pay real money to do it lol) It's been done in many other MMOs and the foundation for it already exists within the game. I don't think it needs to be done by January (I want them to do it right) but there is no reason why it cannot be done.

From a business standpoint (because we know ZOS is all about that money) it would be a smart move to implement something like this. No one is going to buy motifs that they have no reason to use since crafted sets are generally pretty weak now.

This has been brought up a million times and I think the issue has been swept under the rub as non-important.

As far as I can see it, the issue stems from the lack of gear to be made, the lack of increased level caps (which can stay tbh), and the motto to push forward first then look back. All these issues end up making a huge pool of crafting options much more limited. Sure, nothing is affecting numbers, but the ability to customize gear is crucial in developing a character's ascetics and making the effort going into it worth the time.

But hey, there is always something more important than crafting under-performing or bugging out, so who the heck knows when the overall issue of lackluster crafting will be fixed.

This is something that really concerns me, ever since open beta I striven to be a master crafter, it's what gives me my enjoyment from the game above anything else, I love to be able to be as creative as possible with my character and her visuals, not to mention making my money by having a service I can offer other players, giving me a place in the game world.

But I'm feeling more and more obsolete each passing day as more people focus on dropped sets in order to have BiS. All I can see at the moment are players with ugly dropped sets, all looking the same and or having to turn to the crown store in order to cover up the ugliness with limiting costumes. there are so many motif styles now, so many possible weapons and armor visuals all going to waste due to drop sets and costumes. I just don't understand why, why limit your player base so much. why even bother with motifs? why even have crafting as an option if there is no call for it end game?!

I don't care if ZOS end up making this a crown store item, but we need something like transmutation stones (or w/e) give the players or crafters only an item that allows us to merge 2 items, like the stats/ set bonus of 1 of a certain piece of gear, combined with the visuals of another.

maybe allow master crafters to create these said items so they can then be traded or sold to other players, giving crafters a purpose again?

Or even better idea, allow crafters to craft armor pieces that work in a similar way to costumes or something that is applied to existing sets but only changes the visuals.

For example; say you have a scathing mage hood, (xivkyn style) you then craft an outlaw style hood, (given you have learned the motif) but rather than it being a working piece of armor, it's a 1 time use item that applies the visual of the outlaw hood you just crafted to the scathing mage hood.

or simply allow advanced crafters (people with 9 traits on certain pieces, or if not all) to be able to craft dropped set bonuses.

Either way, something needs to be done. this should be #1 top priority for ZOS as this is hurting a lot of long term players who have poured countless hours into collecting motfis and learning traits.

Okay so while I would love to see this implemented, I doubt that it will happen. Not because it was deemed 'unimportant' by the ZOS gods, but rather because it is really difficult to do. I remember reading, fairly recently, that this issue has already been addressed and it would be too difficult to implement. There was even mention that while yes, there is the imperial style conversion, that that feature alone was a daunting task.

I'll edit this when I find the source, but this should be something kept in mind.

    Two things:

First, the crown store is an incentive for zos not to implement style changes as an option. Players buy costumes to cover armor they don't like. Making the change to crafting would likely cut into crown sales.

Second, there were suggestions here to make this an option through the crown store. That would certainly negate the above paragraph. But putting this option behind a paywall is the same as not having the option to me. Unless it was included as an ESO+ perk. Subbing is a pretty good bargain, and I am one of those who doesn't have money to throw at this game, and would not be inclined to out of principle. I want to ask, just where the line is on zos greed, but there probably isn't one. Still, I wish you guys wouldn't post things like that. It encourages zos to do just that. :'(

So here is the very simple resolution.

Research sets to unlock the set and perhaps tie the traits to each set BUT not to use the research timers

So if anyone is reading this who is a developer....

Research should unlock sets to be crafted using motifs.
The traits in my opinion can still be learned but the traits should not have timers

Each set item that drops should have an option to research instantly.
This is the basic way to do it so all that's left is to allow the UI and crafting stations to craft all sets and instead of being at a location....craft each item from the location and research it when dropped.

The craft only sets may still be crafted like they are today
Maybe just a tweak to balance the old research system

Figure out what to do with all those old set crafting stations like some basic learn feature

I don't care if we have to pay MONEY ZoS just let this be a thing the drop sets look horrible and the motifs are amazing it's come to the point that I just craft a crappy cp150 set to look good but then when I do anything else I have to wear those ew sets.

Wish they would implement a system like this, so many amazing motifs and none are being put to use. I wonder how the devs who are putting in work to design these motifs are feeling when they realize this. Over 45 craftable motifs and noone is using them because there is no good system in place for it. Such a shame. Really wanted to buy the Frostcaster style but I would just nerf my character into the ground by wearing only crafted sets, so why bother.
