I've waited along time to make this thread but I think now is the best time to create it because i've been seeing many users complain about fishing over in the fishing spots and in the zone chat for Shadowfen while they are doing the New Life Festival event stuff in that zone. Now I am not the only user who's ever complained about it, as I seen complaints about it crop up here and there. But I feel like now is the time to create this thread.
Now that- that is outta the way, on to the point of this thread.
Fishing in eso is rather simple but not very engaging when comparing them to other mmo's fishing. For example in
Black Desert online all you need to do is acquire a fishing rod then stand near or on a body of water then cast your line and then wait, after waiting you play a small minigame then bam, you got your fish. Theres more but I'll just let this
video explain everything else about it. Then there is
World of Warcraft's fishing which is similar to the one which I mentioned prior but different. In that game you still need to acquire a fishing rod and you still can cast it in any body of water but instead of a minigame you just need to click on the Lure to reel in your fish, theres this
video which explains a tad more then what I stated here. The last game which I am gonna list as a example is going to be ffxiv:arr (
final fantasy xiv: a realm reborn) and in this game you need a fishing rod to fish and you need to stand near a body of water, then you select a bait and then proceed to cast your line then reel it back in and you got your fish. I skipped a few things about there fishing system so I'll let babyface explain the rest in this
video they made awhile back.
Now how does Elder Scrolls Online fishing hold up when in comparison to those other 3's fishing? Well, for one there is no "fishing hole" needed to actually fish for any of those other mmo's. But why is that? why do they not require people to fish in certain spots on the waters surface, you ask? simple, because this can happen.
and here is one upclose
...and it doesn't make things much better when the "fishing hole" vanishes after a few seconds in that type of situation. Nor does the fact that there is no minigame for you to play to reel it in as your character catches it almost instantly. Is it relaxing or enjoyable, you might say...well this is where personal opinions dive in and for me, whenever I fish in this mmo, I feel more like I'm just playing a game of hide in seek rather than fishing. Sure, hide and seek can be a fun game and all but not when it's integrated in a system like it is in elderscrolls online. I personally find fishing in mmo's to be a relaxing experience but when i fish in eso I can't help but feel like the opposite of what I normally do when I am fishing in other mmo's, which isn't a good thing. I know that this is extremely late to call out, since I could of called this out during beta but I seen a few users complain about it during that time and I thought to myself that my feedback wasn't necessary since I am not quite that articulate, as evident by this post. But I think I must bite the bullet and post it.
Zenimax should revamp fishing as when in contrast to other mmo's fishing; there system is quite unappealing, the only appealing nature to it is how simple and uninteresting it is to play and experience.
