Apologies if this is the noobiest question ever and apologies if its already been answered on the forum elsewhere...

So everywhere I look people are talking and/or bragging about having 15k, 20k, 25k, 30k damage, and so on. My question is, how do people come to that conclusion?

I am on console and we only recently got DPS counters, but still no fight recaps to tell us totals and no math add-ons. Is that number just based on the number that appears for one single attack? Or is it by adding up all the damage numbers of each attack? I've never been "DPS tested" either, but I was just wondering how to get a ballpark number before I consider being DPS tested. For example, I've seen my heavy bow attack crit (I assume its crit because the number is yellow) from stealth for 27k, but I have no idea what that really means or where this number comes from. How do I figure this out on console? I so lost :disappointed:

PS: If you're going to respond with math, please keep it to a grade 1 or 2 level so that I might have a slight chance to understand it LOL

Edited for more specific title.

Best thing you can do on console is kill something with a known amount of HP with a stop watch and math it out. I really don't know how you guys stand it. I hated this game without addons.

I think most people are PC players with the handy add-on that gives you this number. Console players need to do a DPS test. This involves a tank holding aggro on a boss (in the least damaging way possible), while you 1-man the boss down. Also important that nobody (other than yourself) applies any buffs to your character (e.g. crusher enchantment for tank, warhorn, spell power cure, etc.). The most common bosses are bloodspawn (in spindlecluth) and slimecraw (in waywest sewers 1).

    Your DPS is calculated by: <Total Boss Health> / <Time (in seconds)>
