Transferring Accounts Between Servers

Having finally gotten through three or four automated "Has your issue been resolved?" messages from ESO's ticket software, I was told that transferring characters/accounts between NA <-> EU is impossible for the moment. For such functionality to be added at a later date, there needs to be enough of a community impetus clamoring for it. Which is fair enough, I suppose; why implement something that won't be used?

My reason for wanting to change between servers, is that I'm in Scotland. Vanilla Greenwich Mean Time. But my character is on the North American server, as an American bud of mine wanted to play the game together. He played two hours, said he'd get into it for weeks, before finally giving up on it.

And the PvP (Azura's Star) only starts to have any population at around midnight GMT, which is around 6-7PM in NA. As ya can imagine, my sleep pattern has been completely wrecked. Going to bed at 5am, after having a few proper sieges...That ain't too healthy. Sure, I could just forsake the PvP aspect, or go onto Trueflame, but PvP is the fun part of the game, and Trueflame is just tryhard (and lagfest) central.

Sure, I could just abandon my characters and put in another 350 hours of grinding, but sod that I say.

As for the exact implementation, I can think of several ways to go about this.

1. Only allow one character of an account to be transferred between servers. Level, inventory (sans craft bag for obvious reasons), equipment, quest progress, achievements, Alliance Rank, and CP will be transferred. Bank account, guild membership and such won't.

2. Only allow one transfer of an entire account between servers. This will include bank storage and craft bag.

3. Only allow character/account transfers at the behest of the customer support team.

4. Allow multiple character transfers, with a global + per character cooldown. E.g, 5 days to transfer another character, 30 days to transfer the same character again.

5. When a character is transferred, all of their items (including ingredients) are bound, as are items crafted with those ingredients. This prevents any potential collpases, inflation 'n' such in regards to the servers' economies, that would happen through the transfers.

Personally, I say that the third option is the way to go.

So aye, gi'es your thoughts lads.

It would be better than nothing, but damn. Those questlines, skyshards, dungeon skill points...That's still quite a grind up for grabs.

Then there's the whole inventory space thing, horses, trait research...

I don't have an issue with one copy of the game enabling you to play on any platform or server, but I don't think there's a need or sufficient demand for cross-platform account transfers to justify the time needed to implement it, especially when there are other more pressing matters. I don't know, but I suspect it would have the potential to destabilise things in the event of character data being taken from one platform and tranferred to another platform.

Well, as far as just transferring a character from one server's database to another, that's an easy copy and paste job with MySQL. It's not like they have to recompile C++ code in over three thousand different source files, with ten functions each.

I'd be fine with just having your CP transfer over. Wanted to play on NA sometimes, but grinding up CP is the thing that stops me. :<

I wonder what the ol' Microsoft 'n' Sony would have to say about that. Can't imagine they'd be too happy, what with them being rather anti-cross platform. Tho', now that I think about it, hasn't Microsoft been trying to link the XBox and Windows 10 platform-store-things together?

It's been half a year, and I've been looking to get back into the game due to the Proc balances being rolled out. But lord almighty, that 200ms ping? Not exactly workable for PvP.

So I'm giving this a wee bump, since as far as I can tell, we still don't have a server transfer system in place. Might be a necro, but why waste all these votes?

I voted YES, screwed up the vote lol.

What I don't understand is why not charge us per character transfer.

I hate to bring up that OTHER game (3 letters, first letter W_ _), they charge $ 25.00 per character transfer. I remember it well, I transferred 10 characters one time (consolidated 10 characters from 5 different servers onto one server).

But again, I think there's a lot of things ZOS doesn't do because that means they have to hire more experts, it's one way to keep costs down. Plus, there are only two servers (NA and EU), not like that other game (3 letters, blah, blah, blah, ....... ) that has servers all over the place. And the good thing about their system, you can do the entire transfer yourself - the ability is in your account. Pick your characters, transfer from this server to that server, couple hours later, you have a new home. just make sure you have enough money in your account or pay by credit card.

Hell, Everquest had paid character transfers. Runescape & Guild Wars allows you to change servers at will, with your character kept constant between them all.

A compromise would be to let us create (or pay for, if ZOS wants to be grubby about it) characters that are already CP160, and have the alliance & prophet questlines finished, once we reach CP160 and finish the questlines on a single character. Would cut out a huge chunk of the grinding, when starting over.

I'd much rather have character transfers tho'.

It is very unlikely that they are storing characters in mySQL. Just like it is very unlikely they have a unique storage where they store anything related to characters and accounts.

I've been working in the game industry and in the past, for a short time, we unofficially allowed people to port their account from a platform to another. It was a pain that involved multiple people and had to be done manually.

The moment ZOS is able to to automate the process, it will be available as a paid service, no doubts. It is already?

The main reason why I am against it is because there are already faction hoppers in PvP. No need to spread this to server hopping.

This still hasn't been looked at, I can't play on the na server anymore due to lag, I'm in Ireland and it just screen freezes the whole time when I'm in a trial, I love this game but not enough to grind out another 600+ cp, come on lads, give us the transfer

I wouldn't mind the transfer between NA and EU so much, but I personally think CPs shouldn't transfer.

I know the OP didn't get into cross platform transfers, but a few others have. That will never happen. Sony and Microsoft own you, and they want to keep their cut.
