Console vs PC

Just a quick question for anyone who has played or actively plays on both. I currently play via Xbox one and absolutely love the game. But obviously consoles are very limited in power, and add-ons and such. Is the experience on PC worth making the transition over ? Thanks in advance. :)

    imo

going from ps4 or xbox one to pc, yes, pc much better
Playing on ps4pro? i like pro better. PC still looks a bit better with draw distance and reflections but HDR and 4k tv win for me.

I wouldn't know what to do without Master Merchant and Awesome Guild Store's greatly improved UI.

I mainly play on PS4, but played on PC for about a year. What specifically do you want to know?

PC can be hit or miss. Yes, it offers a lot of customization, addons, higher frame rate. But you need a PC that supports that, which is the draw back. PC can be a fickle mistress if you purchase the wrong one, get a bad driver or a virus. You can end up messing the thing up.

This is why if folks decide to go PC, they need to keep well informed about what types of drivers they install and are knowledgeable about problem solving and don't get frustrated on figuring out how to correct problems when the PC doesn't want to run correctly.

Depends if you need to be told when to block, purge, dodge, duck, dive and dodge. And if you like stupid numbers flapping all over your screen...if so then pc it is.

The best thing about PC gaming: customization. You can choose to have floating numbers, you can choose not to, you can even use a controller and the console UI if you prefer.

Mainly just wondering if the Add-Ons to the UI, whether it's for damage out put or different healthbar/magbar/stam bar plates etc, plus the overall performance on PC makes ESO a much better experience ? Obviously this is a subjective and tricky question lol sorry about that.

I absolutely love the game on Xbox One, the graphics are good to me just a little bit of lag spikes here and there. But I do have a very good gaming PC that I've thought about getting this game for, just wondering if the performance and add-ons are worth investing time into brand new characters? Or if I'm enjoying the console version should I just stick to that?

You can make your own judgment (make sure to view image in another tab):

    O5jvNP9.png

There's a setting in usersettings that allows for Texture Quality to go over Ultra. In that screenshot I have it set 3 levels higher than Ultra.

    SET MIP_LOAD_SKIP_LEVELS "-3"

0 is ultra, 1 is high, 2 is medium, and 3 is low

Might have to get a buddy of mine to produce a 2160p(4k) screenshot, but someone else might be able to do so.

There are a lot of addons for it where you can change your health/stam/magic bar, and move it to different parts of the screen. You can get addons to track buffs to you. You can get addons to see other players buffs. You can get addons like @Astanphaeus mentioned which allow you to check prices on guild stores and compare them. Though they probably know more about that addon then I do.

Performance wise, that is very subjective. If you have a crap PC then your experience won't be great. I played ESO for a small time on a older laptop before I got a higher end PC. When I played it on the higher end PC, my experience was pretty great. If you have a PC that can support it, I'd say go for it. But you need to make sure you keep yourself in the loop about graphics driver updates and how they work. Then be prepared at any moment for if and when the machine decides to act up, be knowledgeable about how to fix it to get it running again. PC is a very awesome tool for being able to game on, but when it acts up and won't connect to the internet or the hard drive dies. You'll have to be the one to fix it.

PC has the most bugs, crashes, cheaters and always requires your system to update.

Console players have a huge hd screen, friendlier community, better graphics apart from vs the top pc systems that cost over 2k irl, more reliable gameplay with less crashes.

Both have pros and cons but from what I see here on the forums and online, the pc community has some great players but some arrogant cancer players as well.

I don't know the exact specs of my PC. But it has run other MMO's like WoW and SWTOR on High settings without any problems. I have family members who are very good with PC's and helped me build the one I use today. I'm definitely going to give it a shot on my PC. Thanks for the info! :)

Well you can't transfer stuff between platforms, so there is that. I guess this would only be an issue if you have collected a number of things on one platform, and or, done a lot of trait research. If you have a lot invested, switching platforms can be painful. You can get to 6 traits on the items you do use in less than two months, so its not the end of the world in that way. If your at 7 or 8 traits on most items, ouch.

If you have played for only 1 to 4 months, now is the time to jump, if your going to jump.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

I played XBOX EU for a year before swapping to PC EU recently. I would say if you enjoy console, stay with it. PC is very good.. add ons are great.. but the grind is pretty tough to do again and maybe only for diehards. I wanted access to PTS with a cp maxed character and play the game every day anyway so it wasn't a big deal. But the time sink that is starting again is significant.
I will say though, the performance on pc is notably better, not just with fps but everything, game crashes, latency, load screens all much better on pc. I can't remember the last time I got stuck loading or had my game quit three times in a row or the other dumb stuff xbox used to do.

You should be good then. :) Having family that are IT specialists certainly do help a lot. Then whenever you need to upgrade, you can ask them what would be best on the market.

Also what Nestor said is true. You'll be starting with basically nothing. I started on PC and got the transfer for PS4 since I was eligible for it.

Yeah I've only been playing since the Witch Festival on Xbox, my highest level is a 32 and haven't learned too many traits so it wouldn't be too much time lost. I'll probably still play on console casually because of the few friends who play on and off.

The only major difference is the add-ons, which give the PC a significant advantage. Voice chat is a lot better on console, though (since it's built-in and doesn't require third-party apps). If they allowed addons on the console versions, I would probably go back to playing on console (just for the simplicity and the voice chat). As it is, I've played on both PC and PS4 and now primarily play on PC (because of my guild and addons like Skyshards and Lorebooks).

Well, to give you another perspective... I went from PC to PS4, and I'm so glad I did. My PC could also play WoW on high, but it struggled with ESO on medium/low -- especially after One Tamriel. The PC add ons are nice, sure, but I'll take a pleasant, stable graphical experience over a skyshard map add on any day. Also, remember that on console, everyone's on a more or less even playing field. You don't have to worry about getting outclassed by someone else just because they can afford a $2k+ gaming rig.

Since you're not buying a new PC, I say give it a temporary whirl and see if you get comparable performance to your Xbox. If you don't, then the PC add-ons reaaaally aren't worth starting over again, IMO. If you do, enjoy! The hardest thing about starting afresh is the grind. My crafter had everything at 7-8 traits researched, so it has been a bit horrendous in that regard... With the new festival around the corner, though, grinding XP won't be hard.

I'm a bit puzzled at the PS4/XB1 having a friendlier community I played all three and my experience is honestly there are idiots in all three versions and all three communities are full of friendly helpful people...Elder Scrolls just draws that kind of person.

PC and Console both have pros and cons I finally decided on PC because I play ESO in VR a lot and enjoy that aspect the most.

I doubt PSVR will support ESO or Vice Versa.

I personally play on PC and have had none of the PC problems people say they get. Some of the things they do mention are true like keeping your drivers updated but you don't need to update that often (like every month or so).

As for addons, I personally am competitive and want to see all damage sources and my dps and the groups dps etc. Healing, sources of incoming damage, and the great UI elements are helpful. I think they are especially helpful in trials. I love my FTC (AUI also works) and Combat Metrics.

Some useful addons I use non-combat wise include: Dressing Room allows you to instantly switch armor sets while outside of combat. Great for switching between dps and healer or different healer sets. Skyshards, Lorebooks, Treasure Maps, Harvest Map, etc are all addons that add icons on map to find things. Several addons that assist with motif and trait research management. Harven's extended stats show lots of stats that aren't shown by default (like penetration). Itemization browser is great for searching set bonuses in game. Minimaps are amazing for seeing the area around you without opening up the map. I'm sure I'm missing some but you get the idea of how they just provide "quality of life" improvements.

As a PC player, I don't think I could ever go to console and lose all that, but if you aren't used to having all the info then maybe console is better suited for you. I know people who also prefer to use a controller vs a keyboard and mouse.

As you mentioned, you are only level 31 so you won't miss much by switching other than any money put into the game. If you do plan on switching, I would recommend switching before you put too much time into one account.

As for minor things people pointed out like voice chat, you do have to use 3rd party programs but I believe Team Speak is far better than console VOIP. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm not even sure if Console has text chat.

My 2 pennies.... Started at launch on a mid range pc, it didnt play well! The graphics at medium were ok, but kinda frustrating because potential lost and all that, also bugs..... Oh how the bugs destroyed immersion! So I gave it up.
Bought it on Xbox and loved it.. The graphics, the gameplay, playing a mmo with a controller... sweet! but.... The game was using 60 something gig, and my wife was constantly wanting to watch the tv! LoL
So I bought a gaming laptop, and started again... And have not looked back, the controller works well, gameplay is smooth, I only use lorebook and skyshard addons, these are worth it alone.. the community imo is more positive and mature, and the graphics are at least 10% better, and best of all, my wife can watch her programs as she pleases ;)
Also.... And this is based on nothing.. I can't see console having longevity, there will be another aaa mmo in the future and the numbers might not stay? of course this could also be true of PC but for me, it does not "feel" that way.... Dunno, just a thought...

Platform tribalism reduces both parties to drooling, cave-dwelling troglodytes; Chest-thumping and ranting in guttural tones about whose cave is better. It's a point of shame, certainly not something to be proud of. This is the extraverted nerd equivalent of two guys yelling across one another's yards about who has the best gas-guzzling car, like even that's something to be proud of. Tribalism is silly. People choose what they choose, and everyone has their reason. Insulting one another, taking side, raising banners made of used underwear adorned with crayon scribblings isn't going to help anyone.

Just make an informed choice. Really, due to the age of the engine, there's not much in it graphically so that's not a consideration. There are reasons for each choice, though. The PC allows mods like Librarian which allows you to gather up and keep books, neat quality of life things like that. However, mods do need a lot of maintenance and they can break at inopportune times. Plus, a PC in general is a beast that requires a lot of attention and maintenance. A console is something that just works. You push a button, you're playing a game.

Personally, I choose PC for some games, and console for others. It depends on whether the trade-off of an open platform actually has benefits worth using the PC over the console. In some cases (say, Morrowind) it does, in others it absolutely doesn't. I'd play LEGO City Undercover on the Wii U before the PC, it's just better suited there, even though it's getting a PC release.

You use what you subjectively feel is the best tool for the job. No tribalism needed.

I started on PC, then transferred to PS4, then quite. Back now on PC, and the add-ons make all the difference imo. I actually logged into ps4 on my dk last night, and the barebones UI and no numbers just felt severly lacking. Plus menu navigation on PC is light years beyond what you have to deal with on console.
