If you're using an ASUS motherboard that came packaged with the Republic of Gamers (ROG) software bundle, you might have experienced some heinous, near-unplayable lag spikes while playing ESO. After days of teeth-gnashing and hair-pulling, I've discovered the culprit: ROG GameFirst III. This program, while awesome in other games, doesn't seem to recognise or play nicely with Elder Scrolls Online. With it turned on, it generates slower load times, long "Requesting Character Load" screens, and lag spikes of upward to 3kms. Disabling the software processes in Task Manager before play ESO have had some, but not complete success. Fully uninstalling the feature has completely resolved the issue. If you've got ROG GameFirst III and you're experiencing performance-related problems, consider uninstalling it until they've updated their support for ESO.
Good hunting!
