Resto Staff Passive: Essence Drain... explain?

Can anyone explain this to me? I don't understand what it's saying:

"WITH RESTORATION STAFF EQUIPPED ... heal yourself ... for 15% of the damage inflicted by ... a fully-charged Heavy Attack."

How do you Inflict Damage with a Resto Staff equipped???


(And yes, I'm new to Resto Staffs, only had one for 2 days now. A friend suggested I back-bar one for self-healing during solo PvE.)

Yes Resto Staff does damage. When you press the light attack button or hold down the heavy attack button, you will do damage.

Essence drain activates when you do a heavy attack (by holding down the button).

Were you a Skyrim player? In Skyrim restoration staves did not do any damage. I was confused too, at first, when I started playing ESO.

It's from the final tick of a heavy attack channel from the staff.

With the resto staff itself.

Awesome! When I read your post I just had to try it out right away. Jumped into the game and killed 2 wolves and a horavor with just the resto staff attack. Thanks for the response.

Yes, played morrowind, oblivion, and skyrim. Oblivion was my fav (not counting ESO).

And to everyone who responded, I must say this was the fastest response time I've ever had on any forum in my entire life!
