I've never actually tested it out myself but I guess you get a better chance of purple rings from dolmens instead of blue etc

I have no idea what the correct answer is, but here's what I've discovered in trying to find out:
-It affects all chests, including undaunted and dolmen chests.
-It affects all chests but undaunted and dolmen chests.
-It only affects treasure map chests.
-It only affects the random chests you find out in the world.
-It upgrades the quality of items in chests.
-It actually upgrades the quantity of items in chests.
-It does both.
-It gives chests the loot table of the next higher difficulty chest. (so intermediate drops like an advanced chest, advanced as master.)
-It doesn't work at all.
So, yeah, this question has bugged me for a while now. I search for information on it and it seems like I get a different answer from every source, and even multiple mutually exclusive answers from the same sources. The one thing they all have in common is that they state their answers with complete certainty that they are correct.
It works, but for some reason ZoS decided that it's impossible to get gold item from treasure chest, so it's only viable to speedup gaining purple gearJamieAubrey wrote: »It grants the player increased quality of items found in treasure chests. 75 points in the Shadow Constellation
