This is probably not intended. At least I hope not.
Also as the fight report is not clear, it is "maybe" a DOT, as if you get a DOT for a while, the game will add every damage and at the end if you die on the final tick, it will sum every ticks you get. This is why I am using improved Death recap as you have a better view of what kill you.

This was a long time ago; it hasn't happened (to me) since. Chain spamming CC's without giving CC immunity are the current flavor of broken working as intended.
Checked the video again, and from what I see, the other player used a morph of the DW ultimate right before the explosion, while he had Eclipse on him.
It's too much of a coincidence when Eclipse was known for reflecting pretty much any ultimate and got people dying to a single reflected tick for 50k+ damage. Seems it's the same issue. Try to use the DW ultimate on a guard while having Eclipse up, to see if you indeed kill yourself instantly.
95% sure you're going to die.
