Are Macros prohibited by ZOS? If not, what macros are you using for PvE?

Hello,

I've researched and ZOS does not seem to prohibit the use of Macros. Although they provide a significant increase in DPS, unless of course you are a super hardcore player and mastered the art of animation canceling and skill rotation.

I've tested only 1 simple macro so far: Using the ALT key to toggle constant heavy attacks:

- press LMB
- delay 400 ms
- release LMB

Perform this action every 10 ms.

Having this spams constant heavy attacks, more specifically it spams heavy attacks as soon as they are converted to heavy instead of ligh attacks.

This way, my movement speed is not being reduced when spamming heavy attacks, and i only need to focus on the skills rotation.

Having tried this macro, my DPS increased by about 30%. God knows what would had happened if I played arrount to make macros for skill rotation and skill anymation canceling with attacks.

So what macros are you using?

Macros are prohibited per the Terms of Service.

"You agree not to use any hardware or software or any other method of support that is not authorized by ZeniMax or that may in any way influence or advantage Your playing abilities, or influence or advantage Your use of the Services. Third party tools, the use of "bots", "speed hacks", "deep-link", "page-scrape", "robot", "spider", algorithms or other programs that copy or monitor any part of the Services (including, but not limited to, the Game(s) and/or forums), software that transmits, manipulates, or distributes (including, but are limited to, "mirroring") the data stream or any aspect of the Services to another computer, server websites or other publication or distribution media, or software that permits You to use Services without human input are examples of methods not authorized by ZeniMax."

I read the terms of service, and it prohibits only exploits and cheats, it does not prohibit setting up spell rotations with only one key. And honestly even if it was, macros can be set up so that their activation interval is randomized making them practically undetectable.

Undetectable or not, they are still against the ToS.

Thank you for providing the quote, @Idinuse, using macros is against the terms of service. We certainly don't mind a thread being created to ask about this, but this is starting to delve into more detail than is acceptable on the forums so we are locking this thread.

"may in any way influence or advantage Your playing abilities" That would be true if macros provided any advantage than normal execution of abilities. Macros does not provide any unfair advantage as all executed skills can be replicated by a skilled player.

Also one of the mods that 90% (or more) of the PC users have "Wykkyd's Framework" has build in macros. Would that mean that all people using it should be banned?!

What you want to do with macros is against the rules. You also cannot use macros to automate emotes in chat. (However, you can use an add-on for the latter) Unless someone from ZOS wants to come in here and let us know they have changed their mind, this has been discussed in the past, and the answer is pretty clear.

Ok thank you for the information. I fully condone the normal playstile without macros. However, I fear that a lot of people are using them and there is no way to have them detected if their execution is randomized :(

Influence is not equal to advantage, that's why it mentions both influence or advantage, so yes still completely and fully covered by the ToS no matter how it's sugarcoated.

And the inevitable tries to debate and point at other things, that are not 3rd party software running in the background, as some sort of affirmation that using Macros is ok, is as fruitless too.

Macros are against the ToS. There's nothing there to interpret.
