My issue with the Crates and overall buyable cosmetics etc..

These things used to be rewards in MMO's for playing and discovering or killing and looting. They were rewards for killing a boss or finding some rare spawn and achieving something that hardly anyone was able to on your server. In EQ for example you could tell what someone had killed by what they wore or what their weapon was. There have also been cosmetic items with little value other than cool looks that people would wear.

So the issue I have is that now the GAME we are supposed to be playing is being replaced by gambling or just outright purchase. The rewards we get for actually playing the game are there but do not allow for the randomness that is necessary to differentiate us from each other or to go on that quest or hunt for that ultra-rare *whatever* that will give us a storm mount or whatever thing we desire.

Lets get back to making a game for the GAME's sake. If you need more money raise the price for the game or subscription.

    They tried this approach and it failed so much that they had to drop the sub and go B2P

    Honestly, why not both? They could make unique cosmetics that are only achieved from ingame content. Make a lot of them for all sorts of already existing content and future content.

    Enough to compete with the amount of items on the crown store and crown crates. Then there should be no problem.
