Can't do anything when a guard finds me

It's a bug happens on ps4 don't get option to pay anything and what happens guys you might get caught with low bounty that you can normally pay but game bugs out then it goes higher to the point were they attack you to kill then you vanish and can't do nothing

I get this bug very frequently. 90% of my bounties today with this bug. No addons enabled.

This happened to me for MONTHS in Hew's Bane when I just started playing around with the TG. Doesn't happen all that often for me anymore, but I did figure out that for me it mostly happened when I sprinted past a guard instead of just walking by.

Really, really annoying.

Created a ticket for this on the 4th of January (!!) this year and never even got a reply.

We (my wife & I) have had this problem since inception. For us, it is a lag issue: our Satellite Internet service gives us 1 full second lag MINIMUM (that's how long it takes the signal to get to and from the satellite, plus a couple hundred milliseconds for other nodes). When this happens to us, it is exactly as you describe. Before we can respond (90% of the time), we are already in combat with the guard, even if our bounty was only 7gp! It really zuks. AFAICT it is not just the seconds delay that the guard gives: it always hits us when in motion, so the game sees us trying to move after being frozen with our arms up, but the lag tells the game we tried to move a second after being frozen and thus trying to escape - when we are not. We don't even get the chance to use our "get out of jail free cards" (forged writ or something like that). But that's part of the woes or Satellite Internet. (We are actually working on moving, selling the house, just to get better Internet!)

So far the fix that I've had suggested to me is as follows:

While this is being investigated, there are some steps you can take to resolve the issue.
To attempt to resolve this, proceed to the following steps:
Log all the way of out and exit the game.
Power Cycle your Console / PC
On PC, delete / move to desktop your usersettings.txt file in your Documents folder.

And upon deleting the Usersettings.txt file it appears to have stopped for me. Or I've just been insanely lucky.

Edited because it didn't fix it. I just had the error again.

I've had this issue on occasion as well. PC NA. Stam NB. In my case, the character freezes as if waiting for the guard to approach, but he never does. I usually roll dodge and then run away. Sometimes I can just run away. In either case, the dialog window never appears. Seems to be more common on the "timid" guards that are apprehensive about interacting with you. It also might have something to do with guard being on a "patrol" and possibly ignoring you as he was still moving away, and is out of range by the time the dialog window was supposed to appear.

Not sure if serious. But this is a functionality error; guards are supposed to pop a dialogue to arrest you when they accost you, not just stare at you blankly for 20 seconds.

Yeah, it's pretty hard to do the thieves guild and dark brotherhood this way. You effectively can NOT get caught and if you do, for example doing the dailies for the Thieves guild where you need to pickpocket people in various towns, you can NOT get seen by a guard or you need to keep travelling back and paying off your status or else you are restarting the game.

So tired of this! Takes away the fun of playing a thief character. Spend an hour filling up your pockets, only to have this guard bug freeze your screen so all you can do is stand there and die and lose your stuff.

Yeah, sure...

It's pretty annoying, especially when I have a few thousand worth of stolen goods that I can lose just because of that bug.

I also experience this bug. Once they spot you all controls freeze, cant even open the menu to log out while this is happening.

I also experience this bug. Once they spot you all controls freeze, cant even open the menu to log out while this is happening.

That would be some separate bug not related to the guard itself then. I have always been able to open some menu, even if it is just hitting ESC when in any situation in game.

I have noticed something that may be similar lately at random times my controls just stop working at all until I alt+tab out of the game and back. Maybe try that.

Also to the earlier comment about sprinting past the guard, sprinting will never work because as soon as the guard sees you then they stop you. Your best bet is to sneak and/or stay out of range. Guards do not work like other games at all. If they see you, you have to go through the dialog, so "sprinting past the guard" is dumb because it will never work.
Actually, sprinting past the guard will work once they're already trying to kill you because then the dialog windows won't trigger, but if you're not "kill on sight" then you shouldn't be sprinting or mounted.

I have only experienced this bug in relation to guard interactions, particularly the dialog when they stop you for bounty infractions. The game locks up completely, in the sense that you can no longer interact with it. However, you will continue to be attacked until killed. There is no way to resume control of the game - it must be killed with Task Manager or similar.
