I'm really sorry to hear you had a rough time with the crates. This is one of the reasons I'm vehemently against gamble boxes - they leave people who lose out feeling demoralised and unsatisfied with their purchase. You should NEVER feel unsatisfied when you buy something from the crown store - you should always be able to buy exactly what you're after and leave a happy customer. But no, they don't work this way because you're at the mercy of the RNG.
If all these items were available as one off purchases (not in crates) I imagine the happiness to non-happiness ratio would be a great deal better, but hey, as long as ZOS is happy with scamming us, who cares right?
Sick of these *** crates making good people feel like crap.

When you add up all the stuff you got the value is there. It sucks not getting a atro, but does not make it a bad deal.
Like refining RNG changes over time, don't open more then 5 at once. Relog and try again.
Cheers!

I heard you have to log out , spin in your chair three times , knock on the desk and say Abrokapokus Hokiscadabra ! , then log back in to get the best RNG .
* Now let me tell you the second part of the con. Neverwinter always made it a point of publicizing those rare players who did get an epic drop from a lockbox. In fact, whenever someone would get an epic drop from a lockbox, a system-wide notification message was sent out to all players (and there was no option to turn it off). This encouraged everyone else to think these drops were common, to keep them buying keys. Pretty clever psychology there, huh?

This is no excuse, but I really wanted the Imperial costume for one of my characters. I missed it when it was pulled from the Crown Store by one day. So the only way to get it was to buy crown crates and so ... yeah. I bought some.
I spent 5000 that I had in crowns saved up from subbing and bought another 5000 crowns. And did I get the costumes? Well yeah, after I bought them with gems (I got one in the cards). Did I get a bunch of cool stuff?
No. I got some hats I won't wear. I got some pets I don't like. I didn't even get the cool pets, like the little wolf or the Markarth dog. I got the soul shriven costumes (which, what the **** are they doing in here!!! Really?). Anyway, I have the motif, so yeah. Some Argonian facial features ... okay. A frilly dress which I will NEVER wear.
I ended up buying the costumes I wanted and the Cloud Senche, which was the only other thing I even marginally wanted. All this to get a few silly costumes.
And not a single legendary mount. Not one.
Lesson learned - on so many levels. I think I need a break from this game.

She hit the Atronach Guar, which was the EXACT thing she wanted, on the third try. Among the other crates, she also drew one of the battlemage outfits and the evening dress, which she wanted but had been hesitant to spend crowns on. In the final crate, she drew the felt bycocket, which was the only other crate exclusive besides the atronach guar that she wanted. She is now firmly convinced that the crates are the best thing ever. She doesn't read these forums, but she knew from me that they were controversial. She's convinced they can't possibly be as bad as all that, because there's no way she could've gotten lucky enough to get everything she wanted in just six crates.
I'm not as against them as some others here, but I'm under no illusions about the chances of actually getting what you want. I hope she doesn't start dropping a bunch of money for them because of one lucky run.
