I'm a pretty chilled guy. I don;t overly mind the crown crates. IF you don;t like em, don't buy em. Pretty simple really.

So I bought a pack of 4 - just to see what they were like. I got a mount, a couple of momentos and some odds and sods in terms of potions and a single riding lesson (point???? lol)

However, I did get one thing that Irks me no end.

I got a Body Tattoo and I thought COOL! That would actually work well with my Nord Tank.

Oh - Wait a minute - I can ONLY use it on a Khajit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What the HELL ZOS?!?! Personally, I I know a few will come back and have a go at me for this, I would never, ever play a Khajit - Not would I ever play an Argonian. All my toons are Elf or Human. Why on earth am I getting Items where they are completely, and utterly redundant to me??? Items that are LOCKED to another class!!!... ANY of the items SHOULD be able to be used with ANY of the classes.

Very poor design in my opinion :( And whomever thought that was a good Idea needs to go back to school and understand buyers and customers :/

I like the crates and the 15 i bought were good value (for me)

Yes I agree on this point as I got 2 argonion appearance things. Not a huge problem as I was thinking of creating a lizard for another character.

But, yes, the game should be clever enough to restrict items so that they are wearable by the toon. May be something o do with being accountwide?

I detect a hint of sarcasm in there...but ive tried that and it appears once you pass a certain point (no idea what it is as I missed it! but im guessing once you come off the crate screen?) you cant trade them for gems anymore. It doesn't give you an option.

      Unless someone can help

      @Suter1972

There's no sarcasm in my post. It's actually my main gripe with the crates and something I think ZOS needs to change. Forcing people to be stuck with items they don't want is something I deeply resent.

Unfortunately the option doesn't exist and until it does I won't buy any crates to prevent cluttering up my collection with items I don't want (atronach mounts, most pets), can't use (race specific stuff for races I don't play) or have absolutely no use for (female costumes).

        No, you can't.

Collectibles; hair/frills/tattoos that you get are instantly bound to your account. You can't trade in the collectibles. All you can do is hope that once you got one, you'll get more so you will get gems for them.

On the pts I constantly got items that were strictly argonian; I have 12 characters, none are argonian. I have no plans to make an argonian character. After 8 days of buying all the crates you can with the 5500 crowns we got every day I had enough frills, spikes, and horns to make Jurassic Park envious. Those duplicates along with dog pets, and wizard hats, were the main source of gems for me. Be happy they did sort of kind of listen to the pts feedback otherwise you wouldn't be able to trade in the consumables either. After 8 days of crates on the pts people ended up with hundreds of them. We did ask to be able to trade in the collectibles we didn't want and wouldn't use, like race specific items, but no one thought they'd go for that. You'd get gems too fast so you could buy what you wanted and not have to buy more clown crates.

Noted you asked about trading in items for gems on another post, just wondering if you got an answer....

Yes, after you leave the crate screen, you can still convert any unused scrolls, potions or food into gems. I also had trouble finding this at first. Sorry not on the game at the moment, so trying to do this from memory.

From menu, either select the Crown store (then go to the crown crate tab), or the crown crates tab. It should open a screen that shows your convertible items on the left and in the center (when you select an item) how many gems you'll get for it. Some are 1 for 1, but many (like the food and low potions) are 5 for 1.

Cosmetics and collectibles that you already have automatically convert to gems. Unfortunately, you can`t convert the items that you just don`t want.

        Hope this helps.

        Thanks.

I found that on the screen where you would open a crate there's an option to trade for gems.

However I've also found if you bank the items, then later withdraw them and go back to trade for gems, it doesn't give you the option

Looks like you either need to do it straight away or don't bank them for later

The Khajiit markings only even make sense for an extremely small handful of Khajiit to begin with. It turns out they override your normal body markings, so if you're one of the millions of cats out there with stripes, spots, etc. then you can't also put these markings on top of it. That's a pretty fundamental change to a character and I don't see most Khajiit wanting to join in unless they already have plain fur.

We're looking into removing race-specific items in future Crown Crate seasons.

We're looking into removing race-specific items in future Crown Crate seasons.

@Alucardo - I have to agree with the OP. Even if they do this in the future, they still screwed up now. I don't ever play female characters, yet I got 2 female-exclusive costumes. It's two rewards I'll never use. So, why don't you guys at ZOS give us the option to refund collectibles we don't like for 1/4th of their gem value? It's less than the amount of gems you get if you already own the item (which is 1/3rd, rounded down) and would overall improve our experience. But please do it now, not in the future (i.e. no ETA).

@ZOS_GinaBruno - just tagging you along to let you see this.

        My characters (EU PC):
Leopardo Di-Caprio (Khajiit Templar) || Matthew Makehoney (Altmer Sorcerer) || Luck-Luster Burt (Redguard Dragonknight)
Clint Histwood (Argonian Templar) || Martin Uber Ping (Redguard Sorcerer) || Louis Farmstrong (Imperial Nightblade)
        Anthony Hotskins (Altmer Nightblade)

You should be able to exact Crown Gems from unwanted items from withing the Crown Crate menu. Instructions on how to do this can be found here.

As It turns out I was incorrect in my previous statement. You can not extract crowns form items that are added to your collection. You can however extract them from consumables you get from crown crates. I am sorry for the confusion.
