Mag Sorc DoT Build "Roots"

Zurxii

So after constantly getting YEETED by meta bums, I decided to make the new mag sorc meta. Probably the most aids build I've made, at least for sorc.

Gear -
5 Lich (Jewelry, 1 Body Piece, Resto)
5 Julianos/Succession/Kags/Many other 5pcs are viable (4 Body, Destro ICE STAFF)
2 Valkyn (Obviously Head and Shoulder)
Traits -
If you are new to sorc, impen may be the way to go, but personally I still use infused/divines; 100% preference
Skills -
Frontbar: cFrag, Elemental Blockade, Frost Clench, Entropy, Magelight/Execute/Ele Drain Destro Ulti/Dawnbreaker
(Again 100% preference, for duels I use ele drain, open world I use magelight)
Backbar: Hardened Ward, Healing Ward, Dampen/Harness, Streak, Mines, Atro/Meteor
Mundus - Thief or Shadow - Both are great, thief is better if you're using execute/drain, shadow is better with magelight
CP: I prefer 21% increase in bastion, then split rest between Ele defender/hardy
About 10% into dot dmg, split rest between increase mag dmg, spell crit, spell pen however you prefer - Spell pen isn't the greatest to stack cp into but is still viable
Green tree can go however you like it, I prefer about 13% reduce cost, at least 5% tumbling+reduce block cost, considering I block a LOT especially in duels, then rest into mag recov
Food -
I use Tristat food, if you can't sustain, even with Lich you can use the new food that increases Health, Mag, and Mag Regen
As for pots I just use basic, tristat pots would be best
How it works -
So basically your main dots are Ele Blockade, Frost Clench, and Entropy just ticking for the Valkyn proc. Basically Frost clench is cancer, and makes this build so nice. For example duels, smack their hairline with a frost clench (which roots like crazy), Ele Blockade, your Valkyn procs along with your cfrag, and they get YEETED - This build is cancer tbh, but it is my anti-meta build.
Stats -
So stats look absolutely terrible, but trust when I say this build is viable 100%
38k max, (without 5-1-1)
3.5k regent with Lich proc,
2.2k unbuffed SpD
P.S.
I have a 1vX video with this build last patch in its testing stages, https://youtu.be/a2slESLruSo
MAKE SURE YOU USE AN ICE STAFF, the roots are too nice. Also, if using the Destro Ult, you won't lose if you know what you're doing - Frost clench and have them in all yours dots until you get a frag up, pop destro ult cc with frag, and just go ham while all your dots, Valkyn, winterborn is all procing. Look me up on YT @ Out2Kill ESO - I'll be uploading more soon

Does winterborn hit often? I'm just curious about that choice, is it a main stay of the build?

So where did you get that winterborn ice staff from - because afaik winterborn only drops for armor and jewelry.

Winterborn doesn't hit too often. but it doesn't have a CD...so it "can" hit 4/5 times in a 10 second period. or 0 times over 30 seconds. it's a proc set...so u get what you get.

But it's not all that strong in pvp because 1...the snare it does is already being applied by your clench+blockade combo.
    2. When it does proc, it's only hitting for like 3k on most decent targets. And being that it isn't PBAOE... it's weak considering the stamina options...however as a magic proc set... it's one of the very few we actually have.

obviously I prefer my set up to yours, clearly your very tanky. I just prefer a bit more Bite then what your set up can give because with templars wearing reactive armor + malubeth and the litany Troll tank builds out there... 90% of elite battles are going to be endless unless you get yourself a burst combo and a solid dps set.

but don't get me wrong. when the major danger switches back to nightblades.. (Verses currently it being templars and dks) a sustained build like yours is going to be very OP. Currently tho... we're kinda screwed verses non-scrubs- but it is an answer to tremor+viper widow reverb bashers

Actually against most meta builds winterborn skoria is about the most offensive option you can get - because the control it offers allows you to be more offensive than with any other set combination.

Sadly the winterborn ice staff mentioned by the op (at least to my knowledge and when asking anyone still running the arena) does not exist - which makes the mentioned setup (which would be very good) not possible at this time.

Tbh with this build it's much more effective in Dueling than the normal sorc build, even against heavy armor users, tanks, templars, etc. For example when fighting a Stam dk s/b they're constantly rooted so I basically am never getting pressured. The burst from this build isn't necessarily from the dots, but from skoria proc' ontop of a frag into a db or a destro ult. Destro ulti is actually insane, and with this build it's so much better when skoria procs with it and you have them rooted 24:7

In open world, it's decent, definitely viable but it's not as easy to play. This build surprisingly takes a lot of practice to sustain because all the abilities you're using cost more than a normal build. Even with Lich you can run out of mag if you don't know what you're doing.

As you can see in that video and still currently in not running the full setup, currently I don't have 5pc winter born. If it doesn't come in a Destro I'm an idiot, I thought it did this patch. However you can use 5 juli instead and still be extremely effective.

Also - Has anyone tested the set Bahrahas Curse? I saw the 5pc and figured it'd be another option, sadly the 2-4 aren't the greatest but the set could be viable with this build

Ok, well there was a lot of hype when it was announced, but most players responded with meh results. They said the AOE was too small, like a dodge roll could escape. But i personally have never tried

    Baharas is - underwhelming.

It hits for 200 to 400 dmg noncrit in pvp.
Sadly there is indeed no winterborn ice staff.

However i´m playing a build with maelstrom ice + 5 winterborn body + lich jewelry and s&b on backbar + infernal guardian. Thief mundus makes surge healing almost reliable and is definetly vaible in combination with the 1h+shield ultimate.

Why the blockade and the clench?... I'm pretty sure light and heavy attacks from the Ice Staff already apply a snare.

Winterborn actually does have a 2s cooldown. I checked the logs in some fights with blockade on a lot of targets. I was never able to get more than 1 proc every 2.x second. This testing was done several patches ago, but i doubt they've changed it.

Frost clench is good in the stam meta, until you run across someone who knows how to shuffle

Even if they know how to use shuffle, it waste resources. That alone is nice, it's just something different, traditional mag sorc build gets boring after a while, so I decided to make this
