Changing Class

Brantley04
One great token that i would pay a lot of crowns for would be being able to change my class because I have been on my main character since February and I have been wanting to change the class on there for a long time, but don't want to work on a new character. Zenimax can you please add this, because I know a lot of people would like it. Maybe you can make it to where you have to reset your skill points first and make it one use per character.

It's stupid that most MMOs with rigid class systems don't have a way to change class in game. Classes are really just a form of forced/artificial replayability to increase the life of PvE content.

I understand the value of having them, but fervently disagree with the decision to lock them (looking at you @ZOS_RichLambert...)

I actually think more people would buy a class change than a race change.

Eh. As of now, they are on record saying class change is not something they ever intend to do. Maybe they will change their mind sometime... but you know, none of the MMORPGs I ever played had any sort of class change. Race changes, yeah, class changes, nope. And unless they add completely new classes... I doubt ESO will ever have it.

Want more class? Level an alt. Like your alt better? Declare it your new main. Not like they don't make that super-easy anyhow, though I can understand why some people prefer not to spread their time over a dozend alts...

But you see... different alts being them more profit, because there will always be someone who wants to buy that special costume/pet/mount they would never consider for thier main for an alt... ka-ching, more pfotif for ZOS to pay their salaries and server upkeep. Thus they would be hurting themselves if they added class change - unless they make it 5K crowns or something like that...

The proble with this is that Achievements are not account wide, meaning you will erase your current progress for Amberplasma Skin as example. Another problem is that you have to collect skyshards and kill all the dungeon & world bosses again, which will take months and there are also some hard to get achievements like "Earn 1 000 000 gold by selling stolen goods" which was a huge grind to get for the first time. Training your horse again takes 6 months, if you remember to log in every day and researching all the traits & collecting all the motifs again about a year.

That is a huge waste of time compared to the 30€ you could throw at class change.

What they said about the class change when other sevice tokens were introduced "We have nothing to announce there" so in english it means: We are not working on it and we are not thinking about adding it, but we MIGHT do it in the fututre if we feel like it".

I would also like to see class change token. Love playing healer but unfortunately Sorc is not optimal healer and some people won't take me with them to Dungeons becouse of that, although I have completed every dungeon as healer already. I can understand it though, shards really make the game much easier.

Other option would be getting rid of the class restriction and make it possible to switch it like you switch Vampire/Werewolf skill lines. That would make introducing new classes easier later ( I am pretty sure people don't like the idea of starting to delete maxed characters with some hard to achieve achievements just to make room for new class. Atleast I wouldn't).

ps. Look ZOS, I am waving money at you! I know you like money, right?

Response to Paragraph 1: Champions Online, They refer to their 'classes' as 'Archetypes' and sell Archetype change tokens, they even have a Freeform Archetype for subscribers that let them pick and choose which powers to use from different skill sets and people buy such tokens quite often.

Response to Paragraph 2: You're right, some people just don't want to spread their time over multiple alts, You are so correct in that some people don't like to waste time with more than one character that it really begs the question 'why dismiss it initially by saying it's super easy to use an alt' I mean, why say it's so easy and then agree with the topic that some don't like it? It's like saying "this pen is red, because it isn't blue" you'd be correct that it's red but get a strange look for saying it's also not blue.

Response to paragraph 3: How? Just..... How? Seriously? How? Where is your data or facts to confirm your claim that they'll lose money for selling a class change token 'because people will only buy costumes for alts and if class change tokens exist alts will die!'

Also, there's no restriction based on what classes are allowed to wear etc so a class change token won't forbid people from using costumes on their characters

EDIT: Also, just to put it out there, since i'm sure ZOS will be lurking around, i'd be willing to spend crowns on such class change tokens for certain. Infact if they ever come i *will* be buying them.

I would definitely pay to change my class. Especially the first characters I made, in June 2015, before I had a clue what I was doing. So much time and money put into those girls. I just can't bring myself to delete them.

I have some difficulty understanding the philosophy behind not having a Class Change.

It's not like you will have all three Class Skill Lines leveled with a change. There are still hours upon hours to level the skills and passives. Just the same as an alt.

The only thing that would never transfer to an alt are achievements, and World/Guilds Skill lines. Is that so horrible to offer a player base that have sinked 5,200 hours into a character? Is that the selling pitch for not having Class Change? Nope. You'll have to do the game all over again? I just don't get it. In fact I look upon Class Change as rather a possibility to prolong the life and interest in the game letting your character of choice be further viable in Endgame content.

The alternative for many, as I've seen, is simply leaving the game for something else. If they're forced to redo the last 2-3 years, they might as well invest that time in something new.

The Class Change can have a one change maximum with a 3 or 6 month cooldown.

"Just level an alt" is not an answer, since so much time is wasted already on Guilds and Main Quest, AvA Rank, Riding Lessons and Achievements.

We are talking about three Class Skill Lines here.

But no. You have to redo all Guilds', World quests (and get all Mages Lorebooks or picking 1000 chests for the Lockpicking passive i.e) and AvA ranking all over again.

Having an i.e. 30€ Class Change certainly would not severely affect the creation of alts. The urge and/or need for various builds like Healer, Tank, Stamina and Magicka versions of Classes will still be there ensuring a kept interest for both the Crown Store character slots and the Crown Store Mount Lessons. Not to mention the advantage of doing Pledges on multiple characters. Or farming Motifs by doing Dailies on multiple characters. Or doing Crafting Writs on multiple characters. And so on.

Realistically, from my point of view, a Character changing Class or "profession" would be a normal possibility. Why wouldn't a Templar be able to educate her-/himself in the art of another way of combat when having a sex, and race change even, through Crown Store bought tokens is?

And the "no other MMOS offer a Class Change" is sort of a mute point. It's used when the other MMOS don't have something you don't want in the game but when they have something you don't want in the game it's "this is not other MMOS, go play XXX or XXXXX if you want that".

Well, I know Zos has said that "ESO is not a typical MMO" but very different to them all.

    So show it.

Yeah.. I found this out the hard way. I purchased the Name and Race token, thinking really I can change my Dark Elf into a Breton. Nope.. I had to delete the Dark Elf entirely and re-create as a Breton. Crying shame because have to restart my mount upgrades from scratch with the new toon.. dammit!

I dont see why they dont add this. It would cost a crap ton and alot of people would probably buy it.

One of the main arguments you see is that people would just be constantly changing class to chase the meta/FotM but its not like those people dont already have multiple toons.

I would never buy one but im all for it.

If everything else was account wide, this would be the answer: mages guild, fighters guild, riding skill, alliance rank, etc
